Hyundai Elexio.

Last Updated:

The Elexio is an all-new Hyundai EV model. It was previously thought to be called the Ioniq 4.

This is a new product that will be sold only in China. Hyundai claims it is using a new platform. Which could mean it is not related to the Ioniq series we are familiar with. The Elexio will be produced by a joint venture with Beijing Hyundai.

This new joint venture is scheduled to launch 2 to 3 new EVs and PHEVs a year. The Elexio will be the first of these models and will be launched next week on May 7th.

I am not sure if Hyundai actually sells the Ioniq series in China, but I would assume so. This seems to be another parallel lineup of EVs and hybrids. And maybe another sub-brand for the Chinese market.

The design looks like a cross between the large Ioniq 9 and the new Hyundai Nexo, which could send up being quite interesting.

And remember, never say never. At first, the Kia EV5 was also described as a “Chinese market only” new EV. It has since gone on sale in other countries. And it is even coming very soon to Canada.
