2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Last Updated:

I didn’t expect it so soon.

But here it is, the all new Grand Cherokee.
Finally looking pretty modern. If a bit bland. Like a mix of the previous generation and the current Japanese competition.

It will be powered by an all new 3.6 Liter V6 with 280hp.
Of course, a V8 with 360hp will still be available for those who want that “20th century feeling”.

The interior also seems better, but really, it barely match the current competition. A least from the pictures, it still looks cheaper than most everything else you can get for that price.
It would have been fine 6 years ago…

We’ll see if Chrysler is still around next year to actually produce it…

  1. Finally, someone made good on their new year’s resolution and went to the gym.

Grandy looks cut! I think this is serious competition to the other Americans – especially the bloated, overpriced Ford Edge. The Chrysler rebates and warranty *should* keep them going another couple of years, but didn’t you hear Obama told them to merge with Fiat?

And to think I was such a Chrysler fan when I drove 140,000 miles in a PT Cruiser from 2000-2007.

  2. You are so bloody negative, Vince. This is the best GC by far and the most valiant effort by Chrysler thus far and yet you manage to inject your post with searing negativity.

  3. Wow….I love it and hate it…but accept it!

It has enough of that “Grand Cherokee” feel left, but at the same time it’s something new and not as bulky. From the side it looks like a Dodge Journey though….actually, the general shape says Journey….but this one will stay RWD, right?

  4. Not really sure why they are making the effort to resuscitate this SUV when others in this dying segment such as Toyota are discontinuing the 4-Runner and FJ Cruiser and Hummer is flat lining.

  5. The interior is not that bad if you can get over the horrific color choice. I like a lot more than the new RX or the garbage Acura is putting out.

And that 20th century feeling sounds a lot better than economic stagnation combined with national and state level bankrupcy, massive currency devaluation, the coming hyper inflation, and future massive tax increases to pay for some bunk vision of a gloriously impoverished future.

I don’t think this is really serious competition anymore. Chrysler’s name is trash now. People also aren’t buying SUVs like this anymore.

More rebates and incentives on their vehicles are only going to hurt them more. It is NOT the proper way to boost sales or move inventory as it doesn’t inspire brand confidence and help with their image. It also hurts resale down the road. Chrysler products have some of the worst resale values in the entire industry.

If you are looking for a good value with a great warranty, why not buy a Hyundai or a Kia? Their products are MUCH higher in quality than anything that Chrysler currently offers and they are actually a manufacturer that will be here in 10 years. Don’t forget that their vehicles are higher rated by pretty much any source and more reliable as well.

The Ford Edge also isn’t bloated or overpriced. I would buy three of them before I even considered purchasing a Chrysler product.

  7. A nice, clean design inside and out, especially when compared with its Asian competition and their over-designed, cartoonish looks. Thankfully ChryCo didn’t feel the need to reinvent the Jeep® Grand Cherokee, instead simply improving on what is a recognizable, iconic design. Well done!

  8. The whole square shaped wheel arch doesnt do it for me. GM overdid it, and is STILL doing it. Not a good look.

  9. Brand NEW 3.6L-V6, 280hp, how very cool, paired with 5-SPEED -AUTO…???

    Don’t they have 6-SPEED-AUTOMATIC coupled with 4.0L-V6

    It is a shame…

2010 KIA Sorento have NEW 3.5L-V6 and NEW 6-SPEED-AUTO.

  10. Please read my comment carefully.

The ONLY reason why this would be worth ANYTHING is that it is based off of the newest Mercedes ML. That is a fantastic vehicle.

Want some reasons on why you should NOT buy a Jeep, or any other Chrysler product for that matter? I owned a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. Stickered for over $44,000, it was absolute junk. I’ll give you a basic history of repairs that I know very well. ALL maintenance was done at local Chrysler/Jeep dealer.

    -4K Nav replaced

-8K ENTIRE ENGINE replaced (this should have been the first sign). Catostrophic failure while over 100 miles from home.

-35K Transmission replaced, failed on a 1,000 mile vacation/road trip causing a two day delay and had to have vehicle transported over 500 miles back to home town. Chrysler refused reimburse any costs for the trip including a night at a hotel since vehicle broke down in the middle of the trip. Left myself, my wife and two kids stranded.

    -60K Transfer case replaced, failed

    -75K Transmission rebuilt

-78K AC failed, needed compressor and evap

-90K Heater core failed, no heat in the middle of coldest winter in 30 years.

-~93K Transfer case issue. 4WD inoperable in middle of coldest winter in 30 years with near record amounts of snowfall. Stuck at 2AM while leaving hospital after wife had our 3rd child.

    -95K Transfer case replaced.

    -95.1K Vehicle sold.

I bought a beauiful 2008 Acura MDX to replace that awful Jeep. A vehicle is not safe if it leaves your family stranded multiple times like the Heap (my wife’s term for the Jeep) did. Let’s not forget the lifetime MPG average for that GC was around 12-14MPG. The MDX is averaging around 18MPG and it outperforms the Jeep in any aspect: safety, comfort, value, RELIABILITY AND DEALER SERVICE!!! I could go on forever.

No vehicle is worth that amount of trouble. It was only four years old and had less than 100,000 miles on it! DO NOT BUY A JEEP OR ANY OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!!

  11. Doesn’t matter.

Chrysler won’t be around next year and even if they will be people won’t buy this. Chryslers reliability is horrible and their reputation is awful as well.

This style of SUV isn’t popular anymore and sales prove it.

Sometimes you have to feel sorry for the dealers when the product they are selling are pieces of s**t

  13. The Cherokee in Europe is supposed to be a high end vehicle, like the Land Rover is here. Both junk. Let’s hope that they have wised up. Time will show.

  14. Chrysler still does not get it! It’s really a no brainer to know that people spend most of their time inside their vehicles and that’s where you want to make sure that you provide the goods and impress to the nines! All Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler products have inferior interiors compared to other less expensive makes and models available today. This will surely be the cause of their demise!

  15. “No vehicle is worth that amount of trouble. It was only four years old and had less than 100,000 miles on it! DO NOT BUY A JEEP OR ANY OTHER CHRYSLER PRODUCT!!!”

Wow, that whole story is scary. Left his wife stranded at 2am after having a kid in a snow storm??? hahaha Sorry for laughing, it isn’t really funny but I would have sold it the next day.

Real life story and it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard people with trouble with Jeeps or other Mopar products.

  16. This Grand Cherokee looks just terribly boring. Since the first model the GC has gone less and less special. This new model could be anything.

  17. “Anonymous said…
Nice. Damn nice. Rugged Sophistication. I think Range Rover has some catching up to do.”

    That is a joke, right?

Land Rover is legendary, Chrysler/Jeep is trash now.

  18. I do like Chrysler products, what I dont like its their resale value and the poor service performed by dealers. They should do something to fix the resale value problem and their FIVE STAR PROGRAM with dealers is a fraud!! Why dont get rid of those terrible dealers, they are the ones that are damaging Chryslers POOR REPUTATION. And what to say about all those white collar executives working for Chrysler, when are they going to take better care of Chrysler Mexico, having people like Mr. Zamora working for them is another terrible mistake.

  19. “Want some reasons on why you should NOT buy a Jeep, or any other Chrysler… I’ll give you a basic history of repairs that I know very well.” I think I have you beat. My ’07 Lexus was MUCH MUCH worse — and I only kept it for 13 months! (The Navigator is flawless so far… (only 61,000 miles so far)– on the path to being as reliable as our Pacifica. (238,000 miles so far)

  20. Having just bought a 2013 Limited I am reading all the reviews when i stumbled upon this one.. lol @ the comments! the JGC set record sales numbers and is a win win. The only real competition is the Land Rover which cost Approx. $25-20K more.
