Jaguar XJ EV.

Apparently, the top image is supposed to show one of the prototypes of the DOA Jaguar XJ EV. A car that was supposed to come out about 4 years ago.

The photo looks a bit weird and underwhelming if real. It basically seems like Jaguar was still stuck in a pretty lame design phase. And that prototype, if real, does look a lot like the XF sedan, which was a very generic-looking sedan.

Back in 2020, they were testing prototypes of an upcoming XJ EV sedan. In a shocking move, it was canceled just weeks before its official unveiling (Wouldn’t we like to see what it looked like…).

Jaguar then claimed they had scrapped that platform and were now planning a much better one. 3 years later, we saw the first and only teaser (3rd image) of their new upcoming EV based on the new platform. And again, nothing since. Except for the news that all their current models were being canceled to focus on the new EVs.

Recently Jaguar announced they would stop selling cars for a whole year. I guess until the new EV becomes available. Now we are told a concept of that new sedan will be shown on December 2nd in Florida. Of all places…

I always thought it was sad news to have canceled the XJ EV. But after seeing the photo above I’m not so sure. It might have just died in the marketplace place just like their other sedans from a few years ago.

Let’s just hope the actual “1st Jaguar Electric Sedan” is stunning, and much better looking than this.

I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to see what canceled cars actually looked like. Especially from dead brands. What was Pontiac or Oldsmobile working on? A 2nd generation Solstice maybe?

Wouldn’t it be nice to know…
