Polestar 5

5 years after the concept, we finally see the production of the Polestar 5 EV sedan. And, even though it doesn’t really look that new anymore, it is still a great-looking car. And at least, still much, much more modern looking than the old Tesla Model S.

5 years ago, the Model S was probably Polestar’s most obvious target with the 5 sedan. Now we have the Lucid Air and, of course, the Porsche Taycan. And the Model S seems to be an afterthought for Tesla. Something they just keep around for the hardcore fans.

Here is some of the PR BS from the company CEO: “Polestar 5 is bringing the future to our present. Our vision for Polestar’s design, technology, and sustainability direction is no longer a dream but a reality our customers can buy. With its pure Scandinavian design inside and out, unique platform, powerful motors, sophisticated chassis, cutting-edge technology, and consciously sustainable materials, the Polestar 5 is a guiding star for the industry and the perfect Polestar flagship.”

Not many specs are available yet. We know it has a 112 kWh battery. It is, so far, only available with AWD/2 motors in 2 versions. Dual Motor with 748HP or Performance with 884HP (And why???)

It has a new 800-V architecture that allows it to charge at 350kW. Prices are the equivalent of $140,000 and $168,000. However, European prices are often higher than in the US since they include taxes. For instance, a Lucid Air Pure starts at almost $100,000 in Germany.

A one-motor RWD version of the Polestar 5 is probably on its way as well.

However, with the huge tariffs the US has on Chinese-made cars, the new Polestar 5 will probably not make it over here. Unless Polestar finds a way to build it in Europe…
