VW ID.Tiguan.

The VW ID.4 already received quite a few changes for the 2025 model year. Including a new powertrain, batteries, and much-improved software. These revisions are quite extensive, but the ID.4 basically looks the same as when it came out a few years ago.
We have heard for a while about some kind of redesign for 2026. Now we know this will be an all-new design, not just a mid-cycle refresh. And it will be considered by VW as a new generation for the ID.4. A new model that will also come with a brand new name: “ID.Tiguan”. VW has now decided to include classic names for its ID series of EVs. Which I think is a wise move. This started with naming their upcoming compact cars the ID. Polo and ID Cross.
This will change next year when the new design will be introduced.
The illustrations above show what a new design could look like. However, let’s hope VW can do better than this with the real thing. Something that looks like a larger ID.Cross would be great. “We’ll re-do the ID.4 completely inside and out. It will be a completely different car, a huge step up”. So far so good…
There will be more changes inside with a heavily redesigned interior. It will include an all-new dashboard. VW also claims buttons will finally return. And will look similar to the ones in the new ID.Cross.
“We’re going to bring back a round knob for the volume control,” an insider said, adding: “If you develop something that works, and it has worked for years, there’s no reason to replace it.” That’s the official word from the very same company that replaced their buttons with sliders on a screen.
It seems motors and batteries will again be improved as well. These changes will come first to the older ID.3 sold in Europe, early next year. The ID.4 will be revised later that same year.
I personally think the VW ID.4 still looks pretty good. Small improvements outside and more changes inside would probably make it an even more attractive EV. Let’s hope all these changes come quickly to the US version as well…
