As we all know, Lincoln isn’t producing luxury sedans anymore. At least in the US. However, they still offer the Lincoln Z sedan in China.
What many would like to see is a return of the big Lincoln luxury sedan in the US. A new Town Car. The big Lincoln was everywhere for many years. You could rent them. You could get one to drive you to the airport. And many even bought them.
The last time you could do all this was 2011. Which was the last year of production for the big guy. For some reason, these later models are still quite popular on the used car market, and you can easily pick an excellent one for well under $20,000.
I remember riding in them, and they were actually not that fantastic. The rear suspension was constantly moving from side to side, and the materials inside were always many steps below its foreign competition. However, they were actually much cheaper than a big Mercedes or even a big Lexus. Just not as refined. You really got what you paid for, I guess.
Ford doesn’t really have a current platform that could host a new large sedan like a Town Car. The only thing they are working on that could work is the new “low-cost” EV platform they unveiled a few weeks ago. That platform is rumored to be used for at least 8 new models.
You would think one of these could be a large sedan for the Lincoln brand. Sales would probably be pretty low. But it would really be fun to see a new big Lincoln sedan. If the brand is still around in a year or two, that is…
