Possible next-generation Chrysler 300.

It seems Stellantis is in more trouble than ever these days. There are even talks from its former CEO, Carlos Tavares, that its European operation could end up being taken over by Chinese manufacturers. Here in the US, most of the news comes from Jeep, of course. And nothing yet from Chrysler. Nothing at all…

While we saw the really cool and futuristic Chrysler Halcyon concept a while ago, that hasn’t translated into anything yet. We keep hearing from the brand’s CEO about a brand-new SUV based on the STLA platform. Something that has been delayed since Stelantis has decided to offer multiple powertrains in their new models, and not just EVs. (The delay also affects 2 new Alfa Romeo models).

We’ve also heard that work on the new Chrysler SUV had been completely stopped. Who really knows what’s actually going on…

However, the CEO also mentioned the possibility of a new sedan down the line. “Down the line” from a brand with no new cars in years is pretty meaningless. What they need is a new Chrysler 300. Of course, we all know sedans aren’t the best sellers anymore these days. But a new Chrysler 300 could be done “on the cheap’ by designing a new car on top of the new Dodge Charger 4-door sedan. A new car that looks like a more upscale Chrysler model. One with a higher profit margin.

The Chrysler 300 was quite popular for Chrysler until sedan sales cratered a few years ago. While the 4-door Dodge Charger remained much more popular than the Chrysler. That’s probably why we do have a new Dodge sedan and no new 300 yet.

The illustration above shows what a brand-new 300 sedan could look like. And no, it doesn’t look like a production version of the Halcyon. Stellantis really needs to listen to what people want for a change.

And it seems enough people might want the 300 back…
