Is this the 2028 Honda CR-V?

This is supposed to be the next-generation Honda Avancier. Which is a different vehicle from our good old CR-V. The Avancier is indeed in need of a new design, since the current generation came out 10 years ago…
The Avencier is a Honda Crossover we never got in North America. It is currently only built in China, and is not based on the Honda CR-V. However, we are getting a brand new CR-V in the US next year as a 2028 model. Probably about a year or so after the new 2027 Honda Civic. And as we all know, Honda has been canceling all their future EV models at a cost of over 8 billion dollars. That means major cost-cutting is coming. And it’s coming everywhere.
I am surprised they still have money for anything new. I guess the new V6 hybrid program is still on, since these big thirsty SUVs like the Pilot and Passport are making them money in the US. And the new Civic is probably still on track. However, I wouldn’t put money on a next-generation Accord. It seems that for a while, Honda will only be able to make very profitable SUVs. Accord sales were down to around 150,000 units last year. From 198,000 in 2023. Of course, a more interesting and modern design would help. But Honda will probably not want to spend the cash.
Sharing a platform between the next Avancier and the 2028 CR-V could save costs. Which is probably now “priority #1” at Honda these days. Even more savings if they shared their main design. The Avancier is only 5 inches longer than the current CR-V. Which usually grows with each generation anyway.
However, the cheapest way to go would be to have the new CR-V use the same platform as the current one and make the new generation Hybrid (introduced in the 2027 Civic) standard. And call it a day.
While, of course, the new Avancier could become a cool new EV for the Chinese market.
That’s probably how things are going…
