New Mazda CX-30 Will be Late

The current Mazda CX-30 went on sale almost exactly 6 years ago in Japan. That would usually mean a new generation is on its way. Well, not yet…
But that doesn’t really stop anyone from imagining what that next one might look like. And the illustrations above show what it could look like when it finally comes out. Which is probably around 2030. When the Mazda CX-30 will be about 10 years old. The smaller CX-3 will actually be redesigned before and built in Thailand
The CX-30 got great reviews when it came out, and sales numbers went all the way up to over 77,000 in the US alone in 2023. However, just 2 years later, things went down to 57,000 units. With a new model still 3 or 4 years away, things are not looking good. Especially since the CX-30 is Mazda’s second most popular model.
A bad mix of US tariffs, much more expensive materials, and the current mess and uncertain economic situation hit Mazda pretty hard. Much harder than larger Japanese car companies like Toyota or Honda. Delaying a new model can save some badly needed cash in the short term. However, sales numbers will probably continue to drop every year until the new model is out.
For the next few years, it will probably be revised trims, colors, and equipment. Nothing really new. Just like everyone else, Mazda is also hard at work at trying to cut cost anywhere they can. It seems this might affect other possible new models as well. I hear the slow-selling CX-709 and CX-90 could get a facelift sooner rather than later. And as far as we know, a new Mazda Miata is still in the card for 2027 or 2028.
Unless that has been pushed back as well.
Meanwhile, we can only try to guess what th enewxt CX-30 might look like. It probably won’t look too modern. The new CX-5 looks like a clone of the previous version. With an interior trying very hard, for some odd reason, to copy Tesla.
Let’s hope all that time will be well spent on a nice and much more modern design.
