2006 Chevrolet Malibu SS

This is the new “sport” version of the non sporty (and pretty ugly) Malibu.
The new front end helps a bit. But the overall design is so dated (even though it is only a couple of years old) that even the great looking 18inch wheels can’t do much.
The engine is the same that the one available in the much better looking Pontac G6.
The new 3.9Liter V6 with 240 hp.
More than enough really, but still with an ancient 4 speed auto!
Is it too much to ask, in 2005, to get at least 5 forward gears in a modern car, from the largest car maker in the world???

i think this is a big improvement, they should have given the regular malibu this front end treatment, but 240 doesnt seem enough to get this thing really to much faster than the slow time on the 200 v6. another point i just saw the new trailblazer ss on autoweek, the trailblazer already has terrible mpg, with gas prices why make one with worse gas mileage. but nice looking suv
I would ttake any look of the Malibu over the Camry.
The white house mentioned today the possibility of gas reaching $4 a gallon in the US soon.
I think that would mean ugly beast like the Trailblazer SS would be DOA.
As for the Camry. I think it is a pleasant design. Not exiting. But everything seems to fit together.
The Malibu is horroble looking. So many lines everywhere, it looks like it was drawn by people who didn’t talk to each other.
And the Camry always seem to look more expensive than it is. A base LE can be had for under $17000!

In Canada, where I am from, Chevrolet boasts having the largest number of cars on the market. Who cares? How about having some quality instead of quantity?
As for the Malibu…what a boring car. The Malibu Maxx, a boring and ugly car. The Malibu Maxx SS, a boring and ugly car with a larger engine. Blech!
