Visiting the Petersen “Vault”.

Last Updated:

The Petersen Car Museum opened in Los Angeles 30 years ago. It has been a really cool place for car lovers of ages to spend time ever since. Something I didn’t know about until recently, was the Petersen “vault”. that place downstairs where for some reason, the museum stores what are maybe their coolest cars.

Of course, the Petersen has plenty of priceless old stuff. The one-offs that basically no one has ever driven. But also these cool cars many of us grew up with from Hollywood movies or TV shows. Or a few 1970s “normal” cars that used to be everywhere and have now completely disappeared from our streets. Like an old Ford Granada. Or something a bit more rare and exotic like a Citroen. Most of these downstairs treasures are also in perfect condition.

While I do miss the original Welton Becket-designed facade, the 2015 Petersen renovation did bring up a new controversial design that is actually very appropriate and quite original.

The Petersen Museum is just a cool place to spend some time when you are in Los Angeles.

The short video above is only the first part of my visit there. Please join me for a quick tour of these hidden treasures…

It’s a revenue generator. They charge a separate admission to enter The Vault.
