Honda’s new compact EV.

Last Updated:

Honda is working on an all-new sub-$30,000 compact EV. The illustration above shows what the new model could look like.

Apparently, Honda has decided to move ahead with the new affordable model and actually sell it to North America. It is even rumored to be built in Ohio. Th new model would provide Honda with an affordable EV if current incentives are removed.

A sub-$ $30,000 EV in the US from Honda is big news anyway. So far, even the Kia EV-3 is rumored to be priced at above $30,000 when it finally makes it over here. However, that could very well change in order to compete with the less expensive Honda.

All we know so far is the new model will be based on Honda’s new 0 Series platform. Just like the 2026 Acura RDX and the upcoming sedan and SUV from Honda.

There is also a next-generation Chevrolet Bolt around the corner. Something GM could show us before the end of the year. And something that will be smaller and cheaper than the $35,000 Chevrolet Equinox EV.

It also reminds us of Tesla’s stupid move to cancel its smaller and cheaper model. That “$25,000 Tesla” that was supposed to be out “soon” and built in Mexico. Canceled and no one knows what will happen to that Mexican factory that was supposed to be built this year.

The rumor also mentions a 2026 debut for the new affordable EV. That would mean every busy year for Honda and their new EVs.

If it turns out to be real, it would be fantastic news…

  1. its the Acura RSX that’ll be electric. I wonder if Honda got the message that the 0Series is going to be a very limited vehicle. Its the car few will want. So, they kind of have to do this compact $30k option to support the pending failure of the rest.
