Cadillac hasn’t offered a wagon since the 2nd generation CTS. Should they add one to their current lineup?
The CTS wagon model was introduced in 2010. And I think it looked great and was quite a gutsy move from GM. It was mostly available with the smooth 3.6 Liter V6, with either RWD or even AWD. (Even the 2 door coupe was available with AWD!). I personally drove the crazy 556HP V version with a 6-speed manual for a week, and it was an unforgettable experience.
A new wagon could of course not be a CT5 wagon since that model is already pretty old. But Cadillac is indeed working on 2 new sedans based on the Ultium platform. It doesn’t seem that crazy to imagine one of these offered with a wagon body style.
Now all Cadillacs from the North American market will be based on the Ultium platform, at least for the next few years. Of course, so far the new models introduced are SUVs, Except the $340,000 Celestiq.
In China, a few manufacturers are already offering EV wagons. Audi just unveiled the great-looking Audi A6 e-Tron Avant, which is a fantastic-looking EV wagon… However, it will not be coming to the US.
I truly think that once the sedans are out, it wouldn’t cost GM a fortune to come up with a wagon body style. A brand new wagon would offer Cadillac a complete lineup. Not just the current SUV fest they have today With only the slow-selling CT5 and even rarer CT4 sedans.
I really hope the new Ultium sedans look great. And maybe, we’ll even see a wagon in the mix…
The only Cad. sedan, EV or electrified, that makes sense going forward is the Panamera/Taycan grand ‘coupe’ segment, but potentially you just do a real coupe, if the design works better.
For American cars, the point of buying most puts them below luxury. Penny pinching or fuel miser, enthusiast/visceral.
I hope with the recent slowdown in EV adoption, Cadillac gives the Alpha platform a new lease on life and simply updates it (since my many metrics, it’s still the best platform out there). If so, then maybe another generation of CT4 and CT5 sedans, and maybe just maybe a wagon or coupe variant. That could give GM the chance to bring back the Camaro as well. Maybe give Buick a fun coupe as well.
