Audi A6/S6 e-Tron Avant.
Last Updated:
The Avant model of the all-new Audi A6 e-Tron is, as usual for Audi, the name of the station wagon version.
And, as usual for Audi, it looks better than the sedan it is based on. Especially from the rear, the sedan is not as modern looking as the concept we saw 3 years ago. The Avant model is closer to its concept.
Both have a great interior similar to the new Q6 e-tron. But, unlike the sedan(Sportback) and the Q6, this new Avant will not be coming to the US. A sad fate shared with the new and almost as cool-looking A5 Avant.
Which is of course too bad. If done right, I think there is a market for nice wagons in the US. But they can’t be priced higher than an equivalent SUV like what Mercedes does. Or not offer what the competition does, like the Buick Regal Tour X which had a much lower ground clearance than a Subaru.
On top of this, who knows what the market would be for an electric wagon? The Tesla Model 3 proved there was a vast market for an EV sedan at a time when sedan sales were way down.
The RWD model of the new Audi is rated at 362HP with a single motor with a range of up to 466 miles. While the S6 e-Tron is rated at up to 416 miles with a dual motor setup good for 496HP. Keep in mind these range numbers are for the European rest cycle and are usually about 20% over EPA numbers.
3 versions will be available in the US, the RWD A6-e-tron, AWD A6 e-tron Quattro, and AWD S6 e-tron. No US pricing has been announced yet. But the new BMW i5 starts at $67,000 over here. While the Mercedes EQE starts at over $74,000.
These won’t be cheap…
