R.I.P Chevrolet Blazer.

The Chevrolet Blazer will end production later this year, and it’s time to say goodbye…

We are talking about the good old gas Blazer and not the new Ultium-based Blazer EV.

The Blazer started production over 7 years ago, and by now, it’s time to either redesign it or kill it. And there will be no redesign.

Sales of the ICE Blazer have been going down every year since 2020 which was its best year with over 94,000 sold. Down to 54,576 last year. While the Blazer EV is still behind, for now, it is quickly catching up.

The ICE Blazer had a pretty cool and very modern design when it came out 7 years ago. However, I got the chance to test drive one for a week and was quite disappointed. It was just nothing special at all and its interior was aging rather quickly. Even if its lower sales numbers were still higher than the Honda Passport, or the Nissan Murano. But GM didn’t really see the point of designing an all-new generation since their EVs are quickly catching up. Unlike Ford EVs, GM electric models are already making a profit.

While you’re mourning the Chevrolet Blazer, you might as well say goodbye to the Cadillac XT5 and XT6. As these 2 are also built in the same Mexican factory GM is quickly turning into an EV-only manufacturing facility. These 2 old Cadillac models will most likely be canceled after the 2025 model year as well. And they will be missed by very few.

The XT5 is even older than the Blazer since it came out in 2016. As you can imagine, sales numbers of such an old model have not been stellar in the past few years. All the way down to 26,423 units last year. Which is not only much worse than the Lexus RX with almost 119,000 sold in 2024. But also worse than the Cadillac Lyriq EV, by around 2000 units.

It’s obvious there is really not a path forward for a new XT5 in the US since the Lyriq is now more popular, with sales increasing every year. I also test-drove the XT5 a few years ago and as expected, it just didn’t stand out in any way.

Same thing for the very generic XT6. Which was already one of the most boring SUV designs back in 2019 when it came out. That expensive model was always invisible. And even less popular with sales down to around 20,000 last year.

While the XT5 has already been replaced by the Lyriq, the new 2026 Vistiq will soon be relieving the XT6 of its duty.

  1. I wouldn’t worry about it though. GM will fill that space with a new model. Since GM mentioned they’re moving past the Ultium system, I’m guessing what they mean (without giving away info) is they’re moving to a common platform for EV, Gas, hybrid, PHEV, RE-EV.

  2. Cadillac xt5 and Cadillac xt6 are not built at the Mexican plant. They are built in Spring Hill Tennessee after Cadillac plant which just transferred the GMC Acadia to the Detroit area Assembly plant. So your information is wrong. You might want to correct

  3. The Acadia isn’t at a Detroit area plant either
    It went to the LDT plant ( Lansing Delta Township ) plant where it started originally
    So get your facts straight peopl

  4. I don’t understand why they don’t come out with a retro blazer. Like Ford did with the Bronco.except the build on the Bronco with ford was terrible. G m could do a better job.I wish they would do that.I would really, I’d buy one right now

  5. There are too many similar models to choose from. GM and Chevrolet are shooting themselves in the foot. They’d sell more units if they had less different, but similar models
