Chevrolet Corvette Wagon.

Last Updated:

A new 4-door Ultium-based Chevrolet Corvette with a hatch? Yes, that would be a proper wagon…

it would of course face the same backlash the Ford Mustang Mach-e got a few years ago when it came out. it was not “a real Mustang” for many. And yet it recently outsold that “real Mustang”. Same story now with the gorgeous new 2025 Dodge Charger. Which is just “not a real muscle car” since it doesn’t use gasoline. it doesn’t seem to matter that the new Charger is a better car in every way and even faster and more powerful than the model it replaces.

And yet, these changes have worked for some, especially Porsche. I remember when the first Cayenne came out. Which was of course not ” a real Porsche”. And the Panamera. Even though Porsche had been toying with the idea of a 4 door model for decades. And of course, the Taycan.

Somehow the Porsche Taycan has been getting a lot of respect. There is not much of “not a real Porsche’ talk about the Taycan. I think GM could do the same thing with the Corvette. There was a talk last year about a whole new sub-brand for Corvette. Which always seems a bit crazy. But a couple of super sporty Ultium-based models could actually be a good idea.

the idea actually dates back to 1954. When GM built a 2 door wagon Concept car off the Chevrolet Corvette. Called the Nomad.

There have also been various one-offs, conversions, and available kits transforming the Corvette into a 2-door wagon. But never anything official from GM.

I think a 4 door Corvette wagon would be a great idea and would no doubt add sales to the regular model. Which just sold over 33,000 units. Just down around 1000 units from the previous year.

A sporty wagon competing against the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo at a much lower price point would only be good news. Both for GM and the rest of us…

  1. good lord! (eyeroll) If GM wants something to attack the Porsche Panamera series, they should try making it Cadillac’s mission. Don’t screw up the Corvette name and Chevy doesn’t even play in that league.
