The Tesla Light Bar.
Last Updated:
With the launch of the revised Model Y, it seems most new Tesla models have adopted that popular light bar on the front end.
The Cyber truck, the Cyber Cab, and now Model Y all have it. I guess that’s what you could call the new face of Tesla. However, it is not new at all and that design element has been invading car designs for years. especially in China. Where the Model Y is not the most popular car.
All these current new or upcoming Chinese models from various manufacturers have adopted that lightbar design upfront. Which basically makes them all look very similar. It seems all these cars come from the same design studio while they are actually from different manufacturers. The new Tesla Model Y seems lost in a sea of s many lightbars…
And not only in China but here as well. Where not most VW EVs like the upcoming ID.7 sedan above. And especially current Hyundai designs like the Kona and revised Sonata sedan. The refreshed Ioniq 6 is also rumored to have a lightbar up front. Why not. All the kids do it.
I’m afraid these will be very dated very fast. It seems like an easy way to quickly make your car look a bit more modern. In a few years, it will be known as the 2020s look. And I’m not even mentioning the rear light bars! They actually have been making a comeback since they were popular in the 1980s and 1990s’ for a while. Before LEDs, using tons of bulbs to achieve some sort of continuity.
Even the early 1990s’ Camry had them As well as the Mercury Sable or Buick Reatta. And yes, these looked old after a few years…
