2026 Mazda CX-5.

The spy shot above is rumored to be showing the newly redesigned Mazda CX-5 SUV for 2026.
If real, it would still look a lot like the current CX-5. Which came out in late 2016. After all that time you would think something looking g totally new would be welcome. Especially since Mazda already introduced a better-looking SUV a few years ago the CX-50.
The “new” CX-5 is rumored to be available with a Hybrid powertrain for the first time. Unlike the CX-50 Hybrid, this will be a new Hybrid developed in-house by Mazda. While the CX-50 uses the same powertrain as the Toyota RAV-4.
Mazda already has a hybrid with the CX-90 (And CX-70 twin) which is a PHEV. Using their 2.5 Liter engine with an electric motor for a26 miles of EV range. Which is really not great. And it also has been getting mixed reviews at best. My guess is the next CX-5 might use a version of that PHEV and not a regular Hybrid. This would also help differentiate the next CX-5 from the CX-50 a little bit better.
Still, the spy shot above is not promising and basically looks like the current model is covered with camouflage.
The CX-5 has been Mazda’s best seller for a while with over 134,000 sold in 2024. However, that is quite a drop from the previous year with over 151,000 units. I guess 8 years is a long time for the same design after all…
