Toyota Corolla wagon.

Last Updated:

These are busy times for Toyota with a next-generation Corolla coming up as well. As it has been the case for decades, a new wagon version will also be available.

However, the wagon body style hasn’t been on sale in the US since the 1990s. But since every single Corolla generation has still been offered as a wagon in many other countries.

It would seem a new AWD Toyota Corolla wagon would be an obvious way for Toyota to compete against the Subaru Crosstrek or even the Outback.

The illustrations above show what a next-generation Corolla wagon AWD could look like. The first two actually look pretty horrible and resemble something from another planet. One where everything looks bad. The red car looks much more modern.

This next-generation Toyota Corolla could, at least in the US, come standard with a new Hybrid powertrain that would include Toyota’s all-new more efficient 1.5 Liter engine. A PHEV trim will probably join the options list in a few markets.

The goal for the new PHEV is apparently a total range of around 1300 miles, which sounds quite amazing and almost crazy. Since it would double the range of the recurrent Corolla Hybrid model. The next generation would not only have to be much more efficient but also probably use a larger gas tank.

The next Corolla will keep being offered as a sedan, hatchback, and of course a wagon. Let’s just hope Toyota finds it in its heard to give us the wagon. An AWD practical affordable Toyota wagon for those of us who don’t want an SUV…

  1. Honestly, if Toyota sold a Corolla AWD hybrid wagon that looked anything like the illustrations you’ve posted, I’d be interested. The Crown Signia is too ponderously heavy and disconnected, too ‘here’s another Toyota’ styling wise, and too damn expensive for what you get… that that’s immediately not going to be an option. I guess that’s what we get instead of a Camry wagon. But the smaller Corolla wagon is pretty great. I wonder what Toyota will do design-wise now that Honda has shown and stated their intentions with the 0-series.
