Chevrolet Malibu.

While the sedan market has been shrinking, it is far from dead. And a brand like Chevrolet should be part of that market. Models like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are still very popular year after year. Sure, Nissan just canceled a next-generation Altima and their Maxima EV, which they had been working on. But at the same time, Kia just released the new EV4 for the US market. However, the EV4 is not for everyone. Its styling can be best described as “an acquired taste”. But it’s rumored $37,000 price seems just right. Especially before any incentives. After federal incentives, the EV4 could be much cheaper than a Honda Accord or about the price of a Honda Civic. I think Chevrolet has all it needs to come up with a decent-looking EV sedan based on the Ultium platform used by the $35,000 Equinox EV.
Unlike other manufacturers, a Chevrolet EV sedan wouldn’t be competing against any ICE GM models since they abandoned that market. It could even be cheaper than the Equiniox and the EV4.
With sales of the Model 3 going down, I think Chevrolet should offer an affordable Ultium-based EV sedan. Something lower and more aerodynamic than the Equinox EV could easily get a 350-mile range.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 sells better than ever, but still in pretty low numbers. And I’m afraid the new Kia EV4 might just be too weird for most sedan buyers.
A simple, clean, nice-looking, and affordable Chevrolet EV sedan could really be a hit for GM.
