Future Buick EV.

Last Updated:

These are official sketches from GM. And they seem to show an idea for a new Buick EV. These are from GM designer Aaron Riggs, and come from GM’s own “generalmotorsdesign” Instagram account.

They are described as “pushing the Buick design language forward”. And I agree. It seems the current big grille is gone, since this is an EV. And the “SUV Coupe” shape works much better here than on the current Buick Envista. As a matter of fact, something like this would make the Envista look really old and pretty clumsy.

It seems that, so far, GM has decided not to offer EVs under the Buick brand in North America. Which is a shame. Their new Ultium models from Chevrolet and Cadillac have been quite popular.

They do offer a few EVs in China. In my opinion, the best looking one is by far the Electra E4 pictured above. it has been on sale over there since 2023. It is just one inch shorter than its closely related cousin, the Chevrolet Equinox EV.

This would fit perfectly in Buick’s US lineup, and there is really no excuse for not offering it over here.

I guess, Buick is already thinking of what the next generation could look like. And maybe this is what these new sketches are illustrating. And maybe, that next generation could finally make it to the US in a few years…

  1. What the hell is GM doing with Buick in the U.S.? The only unique offering they have is the mediocre Envision. I guess they are just using it to supplement the GMC lineup here.

  2. seem like Buick could do so much better with that shape than with the current front end and taillight designs.

  3. Another great Buick design, but are we going to see it?

They are starved for product, at least in the US. I really think GM should treat Buick US as their oddball brand – give them one of those fancy minivans that China gets. Give them this small cross over. Give them a wagon. Stuff that doesn’t sell in high enough volumes to sell in a Chevy dealership, but is quirky enough to sell as a Buick. I know a lot of people don’t want a vehicle that sells in huge numbers. They don’t want to see 10 of their car in a parking lot. Saab is long gone, and Subaru has gone mainstream. Turn Buick into that quirky brand.

  4. Buick needs a hallo model for the US to give the brand a new identity. Riggs’s design would work well if Buick had the balls to develop it and sell it in the US.
