2025 Buick Electra E5.
Last Updated:

While Buick is still not selling any EV model in North America, the Chinese market Electra E5 is already getting some slight mid-cycle revisions.
As you can see, not much. The front-end design is new and seems to move away from Buick’s current front-end grille design language. Already. It makes the car look much more conventional and not as unique as the current Buick front ends. It seems the previous version looked more modern too.
There seem to be no changes to the rear-end design, except within the tail lights.
The Buick Electra E5 was the first Ultium-based Buick EV when it was introduced a couple of years ago in China. It is roomier and more expensive than the much better-looking Electra E4, also sold in China.
Recently, GM introduced a cheaper model to better compete in the extremely competitive Chinese EV market., with a new version starting at $ 23,600. A slightly higher price than the new Electra E4 base model at $ 20,000.
Cars are obviously cheaper in China and these new prices compare very well with SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, starting at around $ 36,000. If the E5 was sold in the US, this could mean a starting price of around $ 40,000. Which would be much cheaper than the Chevrolet Blazer EV and slightly higher than the Chevrolet Equinox EV. This would put Buick in a strange position since the Electra E5 is actually a bit larger than both. And it’s a Buick…
These new great-looking Buicks will actually be competing against most ICE cars. If GM ever finds it in its heart to sell these in the US.
So far, Buick only offers ICE SUVs while every other GM brand has at least one EV.
Sorry, but I prefer the blue original version much more! The gray refresh looks like something is missing on the front end. Maybe it’s the fully gray color, too, but that front end makes it look dowdy. Please keep this design in China and let the US have the designs that GM Design on Instagram shows.
