Polestar’s New 4 “SUV” Is Actually a Wagon. And It Looks Great

We all knew it was coming, and it looks great. Polestar has just come out with a wagon version of the Polestar 4 sedan. One they decided to call the Polestar 4 SUV. And it looks great.

Unlike the official word from a few months ago, when Polestar said the new SUV was “definitely” coming to the US, it now appears that it won’t. The Polestar brand has essentially been kicked out of the US for political reasons. That means we will unfortunately never see the new wagon over here. Unless, of course, a Canadian or Mexican tourist decides to travel to the US with one…

As you can see, the new body style has a regular rear window, while the sedan doesn’t. It is also, like all good wagons, much roomier in the back, with a higher roof and more useful cargo space. This will probably make the new model more popular than the sedan.

And I think the new body style actually suits the Polestar 4 better. The sedan’s unusual rear design is certainly distinctive, but the wagon looks more natural and, in my opinion, more attractive. It also gives the 4 a much more practical shape without turning it into yet another boring-looking crossover.

Just like the other Polestar models, the new Polestar 4 SUV will be available with either one or two motors, with the latter allowing for all-wheel drive.

Not having this available in the US is a real shame. Of course, it would probably have been more popular than the sedan—which isn’t exactly a difficult thing to accomplish. A stylish electric wagon with plenty of room is something that is getting increasingly difficult to find. And ironically, calling it an “SUV” probably makes more sense for the US market than calling it a wagon.

Too bad we won’t get to find out.

  1. Why Polestar even exists as a brand is a mystery, just rebadge or make a Volvo version of this, it should sell well in any market.
