New Audi Sports Car.

According to Bilt, Audi‘s CEO says there is a “TT moment 2.0” coming.
Big PR words that probably don’t mean much. Like “I have a gut feeling that we are on the verge of such a TT moment”. We’ve heard it all before. Just last year when Audi realized their designs weren’t that attractive to most buyers anymore. There seems to be a non-stop flow of re-invention, new design directions, etc… All these VW brands seem to be stuck in a perpetual turmoil.
The latest news about Audi is a new Sports car coming next year. That won’t change how boring all their current models are, but they will no doubt sell it as a new beginning for the company.
Apparently, Audi will show a new concept before the end of the year. It would be the preview for the new Sports Car. The production of that new model would be based on the new Porsche 718 EV, which Porsche has been working on for years. And is still saddled with many delays.
This is the same thing Audi did with the e-Tron GT. Which is basically a Porsche Taycan with an Audi design.
Audi’s CEO also mentions the new model will fit in between the TT and the old R8. Probably because of its predicted high price, since it would be based on the new Porsche.
No matter how fantastic a new TT might be, it won’t be much of a savior for Audi. Sales numbers for the older TT never reached 5000 units a year. What they need is compelling designs for their SUVs and sedans. Not just one old design in different sizes.
I guess this is what happens when you take the brand for granted and make close to zero effort to design something interesting for years…
