$25,000 Nissan Leaf.

Nissan just announced the base price for the cheapest version of the all-new 2026 Nissan Leaf. And it will be $25,360. Which is a 10% price cut compared other the base price of the previous generation.

The image above shows the current base model, the S+, starting at $30,000. The base S trim will get a smaller 52 kWh battery. And that’s probably where the almost $5000 advantage comes from.

Not only is the new Leaf cheaper, but it also looks 100 times better, inside and out, than the previous model. It now has a “small Nissan Ariya” look to it, which is great. The interior is, of course, a vast improvement. However, it does look quite “inexpensive”. Especially that rather cheap-looking plastic pod under the center of the dash. Not only cheap, but it also seems like an afterthought.

Specs are also greatly improved. With a range of up to 303 miles. (Except for the base trim with its smaller battery). A standard NACS plug. A fast charging speed of 150kW. It’s all much, much better.

Price will be key to the new Leaf‘s success, and that also looks great. Nissan was able to achieve a $30,000 base price for the S+ trim. While another even cheaper S version will be on its way later.

Even the loaded Platinum+ trim is under $40,000. Which is quite amazing for all the stuff you get. This compares to the $32,780 base price of the Leaf back in 2011.

It looks like Nissan has been very aggressive regarding the Leaf pricing, and it might just work. This is a very attractive car with great specs and a great price. It will be joined very soon by the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. Which could have similar specs and similar pricing. However, the Bolt won’t be a new design but a refresh of the previous model.

A Kia EV3 is also on its way, suitable. Although we haven’t heard anything from Kia about it for a while. And Hyundai has been hard at work testing prototypes for its upcoming Ioniq 2.

I think this is great news for anyone looking to get a new EV. And great news for Nissan as well..

No matter what, I think it will be hard for anyone to match Nissan’s $25,000 base price.
