Chrysler 300 hatchback.

That’s right, a “300 hatchback” sedan from Chrysler. Which I think could be the best way for Chrysler to bring back their big sedan.

Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell is being quoted by Automotive News as saying, ” The lineup will expand with a car that takes cues from the futuristic Halcyon concept shown in 2024. It will offer ‘multi-energy, incredible design and performance, but also interior flexibility and versatility. A resurgence of the car segment as customers are looking for not only more affordable solutions, but as we’re getting more creative and innovative with how we define a car”.

Whatever that means. It seems Chrysler has made all efforts necessary to keep their future plans pretty secret over the past year. They also always mention the Halcyon Concept as a new design language for the brand. Which I think could be another mistake from Stellantis.

I think the best (and cheapest) way to bring a new Chrysler sedan to production is to design and build a version of the Dodge Charger sedan. Which is what the 300 was. With its own design and interior. The “flexibility and versatility” the CEO mentions would, of course, come from a large hatchback. Similar to the new Charger.

A large, practical, and impressive luxury sedan from Chrysler would surely find its audience. Offering multi-energy like ICE, Hybrid, and EV would be the icing on the cake.

A new sedan that would bring back previous 300 buyers, as well as new people into the Chrysler family. Is it really that hard?

  1. I disagree. It should be a sedan – and not one that has a lowered roof either. The only reason makers are doing the hatch is because they have to when they produce a sedan that is so wedged in the tail that they can’t fit a normal trunk opening to that sloped rear window. You never see an SUV with a sloped window – and no one cares. Sedans don’t have to go that way either. Wake up. People stopped buying sedans because they’ve become less useful and too low from their prior generations. They’ve been driven to it. You know who IS successful – Tesla, who made higher rooflines on a sedan so that you dont have to contort to get in and out of it.

  2. I hope Chrysler doesn’t make the mistake of going all electric. Offer an electric along side an ICE version, otherwise it will be doomed to failure.
