Meet the Possible 2028 Porsche Cajun: A New Gas-Powered Macan

The current Porsche Macan EV replaced the previous generation in late 2023. It seems Porsche was rethinking their decision as soon as the Macan EV came out. And now we have news about an actual replacement for the gas version of the Macan.

It seems Porsche is thinking of using the name Cajun (or Octan) for the new model. And not Macan anymore, since the Macan is now an EV-only model. The Macan sales in the US last year were almost 24,000 units. Which is actually pretty good, since the previous gas model only sold 27,400 units in the US in 2023. Its best year. 24,000 is still better than most years of the previous model. And a pretty good showing, especially since the new EV costs about $20,000 more than the previous gas model.

And yet, Porsche wants more and realises there is room for something cheaper than the Macan EV. Something like.. The old Macan.

The Cajun (or whatever they decide to call it) will be a true replacement for the previous-generation Macan. At a price point that will probably be close to what it used to be. The new model will be based on the current Audi Q5. Of course, Hybrid and PHEV trims will be offered, at least in Europe.

Since the Audi Q5 starts at around $52,000, a new Porsche version could probably be priced at around $65,000. Still well below the $80,000 Macan EV.
