Mercedes GLC “With EQ Technology”.

First, let’s hope this is not the final official name of this new Mercedes EV SUV. It is basically an EV cousin to the GLC based on a new platform. And Mercedes has been ditching these “EQ” names. But just adding “with EQ technology” to their old familiar names is just the dumbest thing ever…

We already know the exterior will get a huge illuminated fake grille (a preview of it seen on the windshield in the first photo). And the interior now features a giant door-to-door screen. Something Mercedes has already done with the new CLA. And so far, it just looks pretty obnoxious and contrary to what most people want. At least in Europe or North America. Many new cars offer this in China.

It seems Mercedes is also still obsessed with using metallic trim everywhere. I recently drove a Mercedes EQB, and though the overabundance of that metal “trim” (It’s obviously not all real metal everywhere) is just too much and actually quite vulgar. It seems Mercedes doesn’t think so at all. There is even more in their new models.

We will see the whole car on September 7th. And if sold in the US, it could be a less expensive alternative to the EQE SUV that has just been canceled for our market due to low sales numbers.
