VW ID.2X

VW is getting ready to unveil the new small ID.2 EV to the world. Except for us, since the small hatchback is not scheduled to be sold in North America. What we will get is a slightly larger version, the ID.2X. And of course, it will look more like a small SUV…

It will be a higher, slightly more rugged version of the European ID.2, and will probably get a similar interior, previewed by last year’s concept. A classic EV interior with a center screen and a smaller one behind the steering wheel. Which is nothing exciting or very original.

The US version of the 2X will probably be VW’s answer to a series of “affordable” smaller EVs hitting our market in the next couple of years. Like the new Nissan Leaf, the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, and the Kia EV3. Both the Leaf and Bolt will start at around $30,000. That could mean a sub- $35,000 for the new VW. The European ID.2 is rumored to start at around $29,000.

From the teasers above, it looks like VW gave the 2X its own design instead of just raising up the ID.2 by a couple of inches. We should know much more very soon since we might see the new ID2.X in just a few days…

  1. I don’t know… that drawing in the front looks very Land Rover Evoque like… would be very nice, but I’m not sure… they usually have that new Weird light bar across the front.
