I found Columbo’s famous Peugeot 403! (video)

After years of search, I finally found one of the 3 or maybe more original cars used in the classic TV show “Columbo”. The 1959 Peugeot 403 Cabriolet, driven by the famous LAPD lieutenant, was as part of the show as Peter Falk himself, the cigar, the dog, and the raincoat. There were apparently at least 3 cars used. Which is a mystery in itself since the Peugeot 403 Cabriolet was never officially sold in the US. The sedan was for a while, but that convertible was never part of Peugeot‘s official lineup in the US.

As I explain in the video, I first saw this car many years ago on the Universal Studios car lot. A part of the studio is not available to the general public. It was in a very sad shape then, and, as you can imagine, it is even worse now.

The old Peugeot turned up at an auction in Los Angeles a few months ago, and I was lucky enough to go and see it in person. Twice.
