2029 Mitsubishi Pickup.

It has been a very long time since we saw a Mitsubishi pickup in North America. It was back in 2009. And that was not even a real Mitsubishi since it was a rebadged Dodge Dakota. The old “real” Mitsubishi Mighty Max was sold here until 1996. Well, there’s a brand new one coming up in 2029.

The new Truck will be Mitsubishi’s version of the next generation Nissan Frontier. Which is due at around the same time. However, Mitsubishi is already saying the new truck will have its own design and interior. Which is pretty vague and can mean anything. (The images above are based on the 2023 XRT Concept. Which seems pretty realistic.)

Slapping a new front end is enough these days to call things “a new design”. Same thing inside where you just need some new trim and a different dash to call the whole thing ” a new Interior”. So let’s hope the Mitsubishi does get its own design.

The truck was confirmed at a dealer’s meeting a while ago. And of course, it will cash in on the popular “macho” trucks we are invaded by these days. Don’t expect a softy. The current Nissan Frontier I test drove a few weeks ago was one of the most uncomfortable and crude vehicle I have driven in many years. A throwback to many years ago. I guess that what people are willing to pay a premium for these days. Some kind of a time machine…

Just like Honda, Nissan has been hard at work on a new V6 Hybrid powertrain. Which will be very welcome on the next Frontier and its Mitsubishi cousin. As the current unit is actually quite rough sounding. With atrocious 1970’s-like MPG numbers. Anything will be an improvement at this point.

I guess this is good news for Mitsubishi. And Nissan looks pretty good these days with plenty of new models.

Let’s wish them luck and have a toast. I’ll open a bottle of the good stuff…
