New Maserati Sedan Coming Soon.
According to Maserati, the Italian Sports car company is indeed developing a brand new sedan model.
Both the Quattroporte and smaller Ghibli have been gone for a while (Ghibli disappeared in 2023), but Maserati still sees a future in sedans. However, they will now offer only one sedan model, replacing both previous nameplates. Which makes senses.
These 2 were never popular in the US. The legendary Quattroporte sale numbers were probably the worst numbers of any car ever sold over here. With just 314 of them sold in 2018. Its best year in the US was 2017 with only 1,696 units sold.
Of course, the cheaper and smaller Ghibli did a bit better. With up to 0ver 5500 units sold in 2017. We are taking about a very limited appeal here. However, these Ghibli numbers are still decent when compared to something like the genesis G90 sedan…
The Ghibli was an attempt to bigger sale numbers. And yes, it fit look like a proper Maserati, but it was still based on Chrysler’s LX platform from the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Challenger.
A new sedan would have to be truly special. Unfortunately, Maserati doesn’t seem to have a platform large enough for a sedan these days. Currently they offer a series of very unpopular models. Like the Grecale SUV. Which is probably their best seller because, it’s an SUV. otherwise, you can still get Gran Truismo as a coupe or Convertible. Gas or EV. And the super sporty MCPURA. The whole brand sold fewer than 8000 cars in 2025.
As we know, Maserati is still part of Stellantis. The brand also announced a new Grecale for next year. I guess that a new sedan would actually boost sales. It’s hard to tell if Stellantis will allow Maserati to develop its own platform. but that’s pretty unlikely. Stelantis want so push Maserati as a “pure luxury brand”.
Apparently, Stellantis is still “evaluating strategic partnerships that could support Maserati’s future development”. That could mean a platform that is not from another Stellantis brand. As it seems Stellantis doesn’t have anything a new Maserati sedan could be based on and justify a super premium price.
