Future Buick Sedan Caught.

Buick will be launching a brand new compact sedan very soon. It will, so far, be a Chinese market only model that will be positioned right under the brand new L7 sedan.

The L7 is a gorgeous new sedan available as an EV or EREV. In China, it i priced from around $25,000 to a bit over $30,000. Something we just cannot imagine here in the US. The new smaller sedan will, of course, be even cheaper.

As you can see from the spy shots above, the new sedan will have a proper hatchback. Something that larger L7 is not. The new sedan will probably replace the old Verano or Regal in the Chinese market. Cars that came out many years ago and are still related to their Opel ancestors.

The new model is expected to offer EV and EREV powertrains, just like the L7. Something Buick does not offer in the US. They don’t even have a sedan. The upcoming US RWD sedan will be based on the next generation Cadillac CT5. And at least one version is rumored to have a V8 option. Something that will be very limited with current gas prices.

The other powertrain is still a mystery. Although the usual 2.0 Liter Turbo would be quite a let down. Especially when compared to Buick’s new powertrain offerings in China. GM has been promising PEHVs or EREVs to us for a while now. And still nothing.

This is just sad…
