Saab 9.6

Last Updated:

From Europe we get this picture/illustration of the upcomig Saab 9.6
The 9.6 will be Saab’s first car based SUV.

It is actually based on the new Subaru Tribeca. So expect Subaru engines. Unless GM decidde to finally spend some real money into Saab…
Not sure what the final product will look like, but you can bet it will be better than the horrible Chevy based 9.7!
No Saab should ever be based on a truck frame.
And let’s hope they’ll do a better job than with the poor Subaru based 9.2 as well.

Please, no more Saab noses on Subarus. It doesn’t make a Saab…

  1. This isn’t an actual pic right, it looks a little off. Plus, the saab will be based off the tribeca platform and this pic doens’t really show that as much. I think it will be really cool, im especially excited to see what buick will do with their version. They’ll finally be getting a modern platform to work with.

  2. the 9-7x doesnt make to much sense as a saab but they do have the best version of the truck, and the best looking version, hopefully it wont look like this, this looks like an ugly version of the sport combi

  3. The saddest thing about this car is what could have been. If General Motors hadn’t sucked Saab dry. If they’d injected some Ford-esque cashflow into the popular brand. Instead, we end up with cars that look so dated compared to the competition. I used to love Saabs for the fact they were so unique – engine start in the centre console, best cupholder in the world!… all gone. I wonder just how long the brand has left.

  4. Personally, to respond to HJ, i think Gm puts too much money into Saab. Sure its probably not enough but GM seems to feel worse letting saab go down the drain and pissing more people off in europe than actaully putting investment into brands such as pontiac and buick, who deserve it in my opinion.

  5. The spy photo I saw on another Saab website looked more accurate, essentially a Tribecca with a new 9-5 motif grafted on the front, not this…

  6. I don’t think this illustration is a great design. And that’s why I think it might be pretty close to the real thing.
I have also see great looking stuff on other sites. But I don’t think they’re too realistic.
Remember, GM is trying to put out new Saabs by spending the smallest amount of money possible.
    (Unlike Ford with Volvo).

So I just hope the 9.6 doesn’t end up to be a Tribeca with a Saab front end.
This one at least looks more like a Saab to me.

  7. Because Saab is now just another GM brand, it must use parts common with other GM brands. GM has 8 brands and the redundancy has become ridiculous.

It would be better to kill brands and concentrate on fewer better and more distinctive vehicles.

    GM now tries to support:

    Chevrolet
    Pontiac
    Saturn
    Buick
    Cadillac
    Saab
    Hummer
    GMC

GM cannot manage this mess of brands and it’s silly to keep trying.

  8. And they also have Opel and Vauxhall in Europe.
    Plus Holden in Australia.
And they control Subaru in Japan, and own Daewoo in Korea!!!

  9. So many brands to screw up! GM is a perfect example of a company doing many things poorly instead of a few things well.

  10. GM really needs to kill off some more brands in the US, such as Buick, Pontiac and def Saturn. Furthermore they should stop messing around by selling daewoos as Chevrolets in Europe!
