Cayenne Compact???

Last Updated:

Why not? At least this german illustration looks much better than the BMW X3.

Porsche is right now making a deal where they could end up owning 20% of VW.
And they do want something smaller than the Cayenne.

Audi is planing a Q5. A compact SUV based on a mix of parts from the A4 and A6.
Seems like Porsche just wants to use this new platform to build their own “smaller SUV”.

A bit wierd…. Is porsche going the Toyota route? A famly of cars and a family of SUVs????

What happened to “doing one thing and doing it well”?

P.S: I must be sick (or drunk…). But the idea of a good looking $35000 car based Porsche SUV actually sounds pretty cool to me. I could almost think of getting one…

  1. I’m with you on this one, Vince.

My wife drove a Cayenne when we were looking for a family car. In theory we could afford a stripped down one that you are supposed (wink wink) to be able to find for under $45k.

But the thing still drove too much like a truck for our tastes, in spite of the reviews. Maybe it just felt too big, too tall. We are definitely in the minority. While the rest of the world likes to sit up high, we like to be low.

But a smaller Cayenne would be interesting. I like the Cayenne’s Teutonic lines that are almost ugly but clean. Kinda reminds me of the first jet fighter designed by the Nazis that never made it to producction, thank goodness.

  2. You ‘re absolutly right.(about the German fighters too. Althought they did manage to get some of them out…)

I don’t like to sit up high either.
I did get to drive the previous land Rover (before LR3), and being so high up was kind of OK,kind of like a guilty pleasure.
But the slow steering, truck ride and 12mpg quickly brought me back to reality…

  3. I hate the idea of Porsche SUVs. Whatever happened to when Porsceh used to only have rear engine 2+2 seaters or “Porsche, there is no substitute” Can you really say that while driving an SUV?
