R.I.P: GM/Subaru connection

Last Updated:

GM just announced they would sell the 20% they own of Subaru, back to owner Fuji Heavy Industries.
They also announced that all joint projects between GM (mostly Saab) and Subaru were canceled.

That would mean the death of the still born Saab 9.6. (By the way, I pray to God this illustration is dead wrong.)
As well as the next version of the 9.2.

What happens to Saab now??? Seems like most of their future products were going to be based on Subaru cars…

  1. That chop had better be a joke. Anyway, i thought the b9x was on lambda, and if so thats all gm. As for the next 9-2x, so what that car never really did much besides cheapen saabs image a little.

  2. Never mind, apparently it is cancelled and afterall, that may actually have been the final version. Uhh, Saab’s dieing a slow and painful death GM style.

  3. Hi, I was just looking around some blogs and checking different templates for ideas. Good blog with a nice template. I can start my own blog on ebooks thanks to your blog. I will visit weekly by the way. Like your ideas.

  4. that thing looks worse than the subaru, gm is killing saab, making it just like the rest of their lineup rebadged versions of something else, that are obviously the same car…..

  5. Everyone blames GM for Saab’s problems…but i look at it that Saab probably wouldn’t even be here today if it weren’t for GM…I think GM getting rid of the subaru/saab connection is good…in fact, GM’s replacement of Opel instead of using Subaru platforms will be interesting and could make for very unique Saab cars.

  6. I think Saab will still be around today had GM not bought it, but would be owned by someone else. Saab has a loyal following. But with the way things are going at GM, I won’t be surprised if GM kills off Saab.

  7. GM need to look at Ford and how they do platform sharing.

Look at the 3/Focus/S40. All based on common architecture, yet still retain their brands identity and character.

GM thinks that the only difference in a car is their corporate grille.

  8. Saab is too low volume to exist on its own, so must partner with somebody. GM is an unfortunate partner and badge-engineered Saabs that are Chevys with Saab snouts on them won’t cut it.

The Saab-badged Subaru was a good car because Subaru is good, but why buy such a goofy combination vehicle with built-in horrible resale value?

GM’s management is so brain-dead that Saab loyalists will drift to other brands and Saab will die.

Buy a Saab if you want to own an obsolete car in a few years.

  9. i think this means that gm is going to kill saab also. Gm could have made saab the bmw of the lineup, and let cadillac focus on mercedes, while buick, “attempted” to pursue lexus. Saab has a history, has had unique product, and subaru is basically a japanese saab with its quirky setups, saab replacements could have been totally subaru based, i dont feel gm has any platforms for saab type vehicles, but thats gm many bad moves, very few good decisions.

  10. I’ve put together a little page to help “automobile buick”
people find good places for “automobile buick”
related sites. If you get a chance check out “automobile buick”
