2007 Volvo S80

Last Updated:

Another spy shot of the next “big Volvo”.
It still looks like it wasn’t worth redesigning the whole thing to come up with that!

What is the point of making it look like a blend of all the other Volvo designs?
Ford made the same mistake with the redesigned Jaguar XJ. It looks too much like the previous one and doesn’t seel like it should.
Same thing here…

  1. I totally agree. I that class you’ve got to make a statement, this is Volvo design on auto-pilot. Boring and unimaginative.

  2. Looks like a bigger S60 which is OK, but not distinctive enough. Will Volvo eventually decline like Saab?

  3. to be honest im not a volvo guy at all( besides that s60r) but i like it, i think it is good thing for volvo, it looks like they are going after the 5 series e class, gs set, with this car instead of looking like a swedish buick. it does look like a big s60 but that car is pretty distinctive (if not all that nice looking in all levels, but unmistakable as anything but a volvo) if the interior is right i say good job

  4. i agree why design a new car off an old design, the s60 was a duplicate of the s80 that was a few years old when it came out, (just smaller) currently i see the new sts caddy all the time and always and i mean always!! mistake it for a 4 year old cts, why bother, its like hello designers? bring out something new and fresh not copy a 4 year old design by making it bigger or smaller, your confusing a total die hard car nut, what the hell does joe schmo think hes buying when he pays 25k more for a sts that looks like a 4 year old cts ????

  5. Keep your pants on! You can hardly see the thing, the photo is of such low quality. Since when are “premium” car designs revolutionary? They love to “evolve”. I’m waiting for some nice clear pictures.

  6. Well as a Volvo owner the new design direction which was started with the current S80 was a radical departure from previous Volvo design, in fact very bold and imaginative. No one says well that volvo looks like something else.

That said when I go to buy my next car I don’t want it to look like the one its replacing. From this pic, I don’t think Volvo is “evolving” fast enough! The Jaguar comment is right on.

  7. In the 1980s Volvo outsold BMW and Mercedes combined in the US. In the 90s volvo switched to FWD and the car division was bought out by Ford. Today both bmw and Mercedes each outsell volvo by a wide margin. Coincidence? I think not. The new Volvos are but ugly and “built ford tough”. I’ll keep my bricks running forever thank you very much.

  8. Volvo makes more money than mercedes but not as much as bmw, thats the bottom line. Volvo vehicle sales have also accelerated in the late nineties and through today. With new small suv and small cars coming on board sales will only continue to rise more. Facts are hard to deal with.

The fact is your whole post is a bunch of bull shit. Deal with it.

  10. “I can prove what i say , you cannot. Thats the bottom line.”
Nobody cares what you have to say. YOU ARE ANONYMOUS!

  11. I think the new S80 looks great, and way different from the current one. Volvo has a very distinctive style, particularly with the rear lines. This car keeps them but in a different way. There’s no point building a recognised look then throwing it out the window cause some idiots think cars should look completely different everytime they’re brought out. That’s just stupid.

As for the interior, reports say the interior on the new s80 is a complete departure from the current s80, and is more modern.

I’m also looking forward to seeing it with the new 4.4 V8.

All in all, so far I think it’s a great looking car, and I’ not a big fan of the current s80 so that’s sayin a lot.
