New Hyundai Terracan

Last Updated:

The Terracan is currently the largest Hyndai SUV.
But not sold overseas.

It is expected that a new larger and car based SUV will use the old name. And we will get it here as soon as next year.
About the size of an Explorer, it will use the 3.8 Liter V6 from the Azera.
If the new Santa Fe is pretty much an SUV version of the Sonata, this new Terracan could be thought as the SUV version of the Azera.
A very luxurious model.

Once again, Hyundai is on a roll, and on its way to become Toyota’s worst nightmare…

  1. isnt the terracan hyundais landcruiser or montero, why would they turn it into a car based crossover. From what ive seen of it, it is the mold of the landcruiser as opposed to the explorer upscale image interior, good off road ability, and rugged suv looks

  2. Anonymous, you are correct: the Terracan is indeed a proper off-roader currently, and it is exported to some markets from Korea. The design is akin to an uglified Landcruiser, but I understand they are quite rugged. Why the change of heart to a crossover I do not know.

  3. Interesting, the interior resembles the current Highlander in many ways.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Looks like Hyundai is trying to do everything like Toyota.

Problem is, they’re totally following, and not leading.

If Toyota pulls a 180 in any way, it may catch Hyundai off-guard.

Hyundai is definitely improving tremendously, but they still have a long way to go before being Toyota’s nightmare. Hyundai’s profits in 2005 fell sharply, while Toyota’s profits remained sky-high, and began to increase near the end of the year.

The Chinese makers pose a bigger threat to Toyota, not to mention Hyundai.

  4. I think the Chinese are still a good distance off from any industry standards. That doesn’t mean we should write them off though…but their strengths are still in copying other’s.

That interior is really similiar to the Toyota Highlander! Wow. Go Korea!

Has anyone noticed though…their prices are creeping up? (of course that’s justified as their quality/designs improve)
