2007 Altima Hybrid

Last Updated:

Not much info yet.
I hear it actually uses the Toyota system and can therefore run at low speed on electric only.
Don’t know when it’ll be available yet.

It should be cheaper than the Camry.

  1. This is the same thing seen with Ford’s Hybrid SUV that uses Toyota’s Hybrid System. I believe they are also now using it in a Mercury aren’t they?

The thing is that they are using Toyota’s First Generation Hybrid System versus the latest “Synergy Drive” system that is equipped on the newer Toyota and Lexus Models. I have heard this will be the case with Altima as well so while it may be cheaper I wouldn’t expect it to perform as well as Camry in terms of Ecomony.

Lets see how well Nissan can actually execute putting this technology in their vehicles as they didn’t engineer it. I am sure the hybrid system wont be coupled with one of Toyotas well refined engines.

  2. I’ll wait for the next-gen Prius, in 1-2 years, rumore to get 90MPG(the current one , from a personal friend, has 45,000 miles, gets avg of 50, 48 hwy, 51-52 city…so even if th e90 MPG ends up being “only” 75-80 MPG….still is great mileage).

GM supposedly has a “better” hybrid(due to some collboration with another automaker, thus making it less costly?) coming out either in 2010 or as a 2010 model.
    Supposedly better”twin” system?
(not sure of the name). It was on detnews.com and thecarconnection.com a week or two ago.

  3. You notice how GM is always coming out with “advanced” technology “in the future”….maybe. Meanwhile what they do produce for sure is more and more heavy, gas-guzzling pigs. I mean, GM is going to reinvent itself with an updated version of a 30 year old Camaro that gets even worse gas mileage than it did then. Yea sure, those GM geniuses have got the competition right where they want them.

What do you expect? American pigs still buy gas-guzzlers. GM is just their drug dealer.

  5. “GM’s advanced technology”, that’s funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GM’s advanced technology is something all the other car makers came out with 5 years ago !! GM doesn’t know what the word “advance” means.

  6. The Ford system doesn’t use technology from Toyota, it just infringes on Toyota’s patents, and thus Ford needed to purchase approval from Toyota to sell technology covered by those patents. I do believe they are using the same battery supplier, Aisin, which is heavily allied with Toyota, since Ford was at one point whining that they couldn’t get all the batteries they wanted.
I haven’t heard any very clear indications on how much Toyota stuff will be in the Nissan model, but I doubt they’d sell something using Toyota’s old junk, but you never know, it might be cost effective that way.
Also, as much as GM and DCX seem behind on so many things, the hybrid transmission they developed (with BMW) is actually pretty revolutionary in the way it integrates electronics and the transmission allowing better use and generation of electricity. We’ll see if the software and batteries and the rest of the car don’t let down the system…

  7. Will hybrids’ better MPG rates offset the thousands it will cost to replace the batteries when they die? LOL.
