2007 Mini Cooper S
Last Updated:
First official pictures of the new Mini!
And it looks the same.
It is actually about 2 inches longer than the old one and supposely roomier, quieter, faster and smoother. In a word… better
They “rebuilt” it just like Steve Austin.
As we said before, engines are all new from a Peugeot/BMW venture.
120hp for the Cooper and 175hp for the S.
The interior is all new.
I can’t wait for the long wheelbase wagon later…
im confused your excited about these picture big question WHATS THE DIFFERENCE???? it looks just like the current one inside and out dont see how this was even worth a redo.
Somehow, this car reminds me of another car… Wait… Is it the MINI?
For one the headlights are different, more circle like.
Because BMW is making their retro-mobile completely modern under the skin, unlike, say, a PT Cruiser, or New Beetle, which will each spend 8-10 years on the road before they’re upgraded.
So, you are looking for a bigger small car? I hate the constant creep of models, always larger.
Cars in general, including the Mini are getting bigger because of litigious and NHTSA pressure. There’s no way around it. Look at the tall hoods on the new Camry and Jetta- that’s our future. You’ve got to protect the everyone, even idiots.
I really like the small hood scoop on the current S. It is a shane that the 07′ S will loose some of its character.
Notice how the trim and details have been blown up: The fog lamps, the bigger rear light clusters, the higher belt line, comedy wheels… it’s a cartoon, a caricature of the 1959 original.
Designers nowadays don’t do subtle. Observe the 2006 Lambo Miura Concept. The rims are laughably hideous, looking like the original’s but designed by a 6 year old with a sledgehammer. Everything’s BIG, BOLD. Designers have to realise that that having MORE, or having it BIGGER, doesn’t translate into progress.
This doesn’t seem to be the S (from the badging if nothing else); there are other spy shots that do have a hood scoop.
You’re right, this is the ‘regular” Cooper.
The S does have a scoop.
The additional lenght went to the front overhang (crash reguulations?new engine?), wheelbase is said to be identical, so don’t expect a “much roomier” interior.

exactly! everything’s too big and too vulgar nowadays.
Why Vince wants a bigger car (Wagon?!) when he is looking at a MINI?
Because Vince likes the style of the Mini. And also loves the old Mini wagon from the 60’s
That’s why Vince can’t wait to see the new wagon. (which isn’t going to be that much bigger anyway….)
The wagon with have to separate doors with each a wiper. It should be a really cool little car, but I feel the price will be $ 23-29.OOO….Just a guess.
But I would love both coupe and wagon to have AWD, but again it will be $$$.
BMW knows it’s on to a good thing. Fair enough—at least we didn’t get the modern-day equivalent of the Clubman.
