Chery Hybrid, already!

Last Updated:

Chery will present later this month a hybrid version of their A5 Sedan.
Powered by a 1.3 Liter engine.
Will this stay a concept, or will this put Chery ahead of most US car manufacturers???

  1. This thing looks like the last generation Kia Optima(and that’s NOT a good thing!).
Hybrid or not; they better work on the front end some. Thing is nothing I’d want to see in my yard for 5 years of payments.

GM is supposedly gonna put out a hybrid in a year(>read on various sites)….
maybe if they tweak the lights, grille some(fix the looks), and sell the hybrid for 15-16K…who knows?

  2. Looks crude… in an 80s Russian kind of way. With all the lovely Chinese cars on this site, we should just rename this crappythirdworldcommunistshitboxcars.com.

Please, lets be clear…the chinese have not indicated that they have the ability to produce anything but garbage. Once they do, thats when we can proclaim they’re competitive. Today… Not even close.

  3. Chery cant even build and design cars yet, hence this altima rip off, there so new, lets not put the cart before the horse ! they need to concentrate on building cars first then play with other things like hybrids, hell i wouldnt even buy a toyota hybrid and they want me to buy a Chery (unproven) and hybrid (unproven) combined ? are they nuts ????
currently i laugh hard at prius owners cause they think there saving the enviroment, but they have no clue as to how those batteries will be dealt with at the end of there usefullness, and most will prob sell the car before 80k so they wont have to deal with the battery replacement, (3000 bucks) so basically there ignorant !!

  4. Chery is competitive, maybe not on Honda level, lol.
The ONLY reason they are not here yet, as Malcholm Bricklin said, is it is tougher than they thought to build cars for USA crash test and Emissions standards(w/o raising costs to say Hyundai level. Read a report saying , just for something the size of the Accent, Chery model would only have 1000 dollar price advantage. They are working on meeting the emissions and crash test standards now, so ANYTHING SOLD in USA will have to meet the minimal standards, which are fairly high in the first place).
    Anyone ever hear of DCX?
Chrylser and Chery are gonna build small cars9 maybe the Dodoge Hornet, and a few cars) starting next year, as soon as the tooling, etc, is ready( go check out thecarconnection.com, theautochannel.com, others of it’s ilk, maybe even detnews.com, for possible “back issue” news on this… it was announced about 6-8 weeks ago, if i am recalling this correctly).
Now… this is not a “must have ” car, look-wise, lol.
As someone said, it looks like a 5 year old Kia Optima.

If this thing came out, a Mid-sized sedan, got Camry Hybrid mileage(40HWy, 38 city)and cost maybe 18-20K, tops, and offered a Hyundai-like warranty……. I bet there would be buyers, willing to take a chance.
Price this hybrid, Mid-sized sedan, at the price of a compact Civic sedan, or maybe a grand or two less, and they might fly off of lots.

Just because you may not like it or trust it, does not mean others would not give it a chance(even though it looks like a now defunct Kia; a bad looking Kia).

Here: Buy a Sebring at 18,900, 32MPG, I-4, or a Chevy/Visionary Vehicle V6(who knows what engine type this is, just guessing here)…hyrbid for 18K(and 100,000 warranty)40MPG… Now you might see what I’m trying to say here.

  5. 1) design rip offs: happens all the time. I heard people say tC and G6 look similar in profile.
Someone said the Sonata looks like an Accord, blah, blah, blah. I don’t care, as long as it looks good(this does not. It’s not bad enough I would not consider it, if i could get 40-45MPG and pay 18K for a mid-sized sedan, V6).

Talks about Chery/Chrysler building small cars together.
    get over it.
All they gotta do is meet the emissions and crash tests. PS: these won’t be 10-18K cars only…. I read as much as 40-45K vehicles, so they ain’t shooting(100%) for price only.

I wish they were here now. I don’t care who builds ’em. back ’em up wiht a good warranty(Malcholm has said he would, like Hyundai), best price ever, and at least on par of Hyundia/Kia today.
I’d buy one, if it looked good, NVH was decent, etc(like Hyundai/Kia).
Others will buy, too, if they meet these minimums.

  7. i will never ever consider buying this piece of crap. the fact that the chinese thought they could just sneak their shitty cars in here without adhering to our emissions and safety standards is ridiculous… seems like they’re trying to build the best crappiest car possible just so they can get by the bare minimum to make a profit.
