Mazda 2

Last Updated:

More pictures and info about the all new small Mazda.
-1 inch shorter than a Honda Fit.
-About 4 inches longer than a Yaris 5 door hatch.
-2 versions available in Europe. 1.3 Liter with 75hp and 1.5 Liter with 104hp
-15 inch wheels and 16 with the Sports Appearance Package (The grey car)

No word on US sales. We’ll get a version through Ford, maybe called the Fiesta.
But I’m not sure if we”ll get the actual Mazda model.

This seems to be the most European looking Japanese car to date.

  1. Wow, this is very nice. I’m not usually a fan of these tiny cars. The Yaris, the Fit, the Versa and the even less substantial Hyundai and Kias all just scream “cheap” to me. I’d say that Mazda has just trumped just about every other competitor, with the exception of maybe the Mini.

  2. The Fit and the Versa are great small cars. This Mazda looks great, alot like a Peugeot. Hope it comes to the US. I wouldn’t mind it as a Fiesta, but I bet Ford wouldn’t bring over a manual.

  3. Given the current upward trend in gas prices, the Mazda 2 (or Ford variant) would be a huge success now.
Small on the outside and spacious on the inside–the way cars should be IMO.

  4. Vince, here in San Francisco I saw regular at $3.199 at a popular Chevron Station. It was $2.999 a week ago.
With luck, higher gas prices will keep some of those dumb, monster SUVs and trucks (usually driven by posers around here) off the streets.

  5. That is one hot little car. Right now the mini is the only thing that comes close. Although I would bet alot that this would be thousands less.

Amen to that. Too bad all of us who drive fuel efficient cars have to pay for it, too.

Right now I’m looking a someone driving a four-door Dodge Ram with the engine idling for about ten minutes. That dickweed should be forced to drive a Smart for the next ten years.

I just saw $3 for regular yesterday for the 1st time in months….

Damn! It’s $2.25 here, and I was bitching while filling my Civic. I feel for ya, dude.

  8. I like the picture you posted earlier (below) of the front end. The grill looks better without the horizontal bar through it. This is a cute car with some definite Bangle influences.

  9. With any luck we will be paying $10 a gallon soon. This will starve off the environmentalists since they have no marketable skills.
