I agree. Volvo are offering a wood steering wheel on the C30. dash panel as well would be a nice touch.

Ditto on the wood console – very Ikea, as it should be. Volvo needs to do things like that to highlight its Scandanavian roots and differentiate itself.

The top photo looks like a last generation Jetta wagon with a Volvo front end tacked on. Not a bad thing, however.

Conserving natural resources is a valid point. Maybe you should write Volvo and ask them to use reclaimed wood or wood grown expressly for these applications. Couldn’t hurt.
We’ve got an ’07 in Black – nice car but some funky details like that console. The ’08 version is better, IMHO.
At least they don’t sell well here, which makes me happy since it means we don’t see others on the road very often, even in car-crazy Los Angeles.
if they want to be taken seriously as a luxury car maker they might want to “avoid the ikea look” ikea make low end, poor quality products that happen to look trendy. maybe that fits this car, but that wood dash looks pretty cheap, as does ikeas furniture….
Wood from Ikea and Volvo is grown for the application, I believe jaguar does that as well. The amount of wood in a vehicle is dwarfed by what people are putting in their homes on the floor(brazilian cherry very hot right now, although some is farmed), ceilings, walls etc etc etc
All wood use is contra-existance and contra-cohabitational. Volvo and all other companies should be fined millions and forced to do yoga 3x a week until they see their wayward ways.

Meh… get your head out of 1982. Volvo is being taken seriously as a premium car maker. Since the S60, Volvos are regarded as some of the most beautiful cars sketched these days. Interiorwise, Volvos are leaders in both design and materials… second only to Audi. The S40 is a brilliant car. A thousand times better than the first gen S40.
