2008 Honda Accord

Last Updated:

Just what I thought from the spy picture. The sedan looks a bit awkward, from many angles.
Maybe it’s one of these cars that looks better “in the flesh”.
Here are some of the specs:

-About 3 inches longer
-A bit wider and taller
-18 inch wheels available on the coupe
-2.4 Liter engine with 180hp standard. With a 200hp version offered.
Not sure why they would have 2 versions of the same enine…
-273hp V6
-No 6 speed auto

  1. rear 3/4 is heavy, thick and ponderous. looks like alot of junk in da trunk, but not an appealing feature in a car, Altima beats it hands down

  2. The back end looks pretty awkward, the rest of the car looks great IMHO.

They will still sell a ton, and that interior looks fantastic. 273HP V6 sounds pretty nice for a family hauler.

  4. Wow… ugly!
Honda keeps raising the bar, and I thought current gen Accord sedan was so ugly already.

The back looks like an old Saturn (especially the trunk line), the taillights and rear bumpers mimic those of Avalon but in a bad way

Too bad… I was really looking forward to this one since I skipped the current generation

  5. That’s awful!
Did they try and save time by having 6 different teams working on it in parallel, each designing a different panel?
Or is it just a photofit of the BMW3 and a random collection of Chinese and Korean cars, kind of like an automotive Mr Potatohead?

  6. I like both the Accord sedan and the coupe and they’ll be great cars and strong sellers.

Too bad the Accord has become so big. I think the ideal size was the ’94-’97 Accord.

The Civic isn’t sufficiently upscale to be a suitable substitute for the Accord.

For people who want a car easier to park, the CRV might be a better choice now. But the trouble with the CRV is that its driver’s seat is puny compared with the Accord’s unless the CRV’s new 8-way seat is larger and deeper.

The CRV is really a “chick car” which explains the dainty seats. But its overall size is ideal IMO.

  7. I’m very dissapointed at the style of the car. Looks very cheap and 80’s Korean.

    Even the dash looks odd.

  8. The exterior design looks unusually busy for a Honda with all the creases and swoopy sheetmetal. It doesn’t seem to work well at all, and doesn’t exude much refinement.

  9. I was the guy who commented it looked like a saturn.

After reading edmunds.com’s articles and checking out their pics – I’ve to say that I’m really happy.

It’s definitely not as bad looking as I first thought it was.

I’m pretty sure it’ll look better in the flesh!

  10. It is designed by Americans, uses most American parts
and built by Americans, does this explain your answer?

JDM doesnt come close to this nonsense.

  11. Rear end looks like the old base model Saturn SL1. Grotesque interior design. Nothing about this car says Honda except the badges.

I was a huge fan for years, but you’ve dropped the ball, Honda.

  12. I totally agree, the car looks unbelievably ugly from the back. I just don’t understand the design. It has Saturn written all over it. Can’t wait to see it in person and change my mind though;-)

Wow, look at the gap between the door and the instrument panel!

Huge gap! Honda has either learned this from domestic manufacturers or it just comes from building Accords here. I know they cheapened the 2001-2005 Civic with sub-standard interior materials made from American suppliers.

  14. This is the new 2008 Honda? What Happened?

I’m liking the interior but not feeling the exterior. I agree with the comments about the front looking good and the rear is very disconnected from the rest of the vehicle.

It makes it look dated already before it’s even been released. The rear end design was the big problem
before on this car and yet they choose not to address it once again.

No doubt, Honda loyalist by the thousands will eagerly and mindlessly buy this.

  15. The first thing that came to mind after seeing the rear end was 2000 Saturn SL. Yuck!

Looks like others came to the same conclusion.

  16. Vince, Do you have any info or have you heard if the 2.4 180HP or higher HP 4 cylinder engine might find its way into the CR-V? The current engine really needs a boost of horsepower badly!

  17. “Huge gap! Honda has either learned this from domestic manufacturers or it just comes from building Accords here. I know they cheapened the 2001-2005 Civic with sub-standard interior materials made from American suppliers.”

That’s no excuse. It’s still Honda’s (a Japanese comapny) responsibility to see that their products are as high quality as possible. If this thing was built by monkeys with parts supplied by Hasbro it’s still up to Honda to see to it that the new Accord is up to the old Honda standards. That is evidently not the case here. Just build it and the masses will buy it. That’s the bottom line — sell, sell, sell.

  18. vince, if you please, show a side by side of the rear 3/4 of this car and next to it , the almighty Altima

  19. “It is designed by Americans,”

No, it was done in the Japan studio. The last one was done there too.

  20. Seriously, everyone, is this the real car or a real “Bad” joke. I can’t imagine plunking hard earned money down for this. Is it a photoshopped as a joke version?

  21. The cas was designed ONLY in JAPAN.
By JAPANESE DESIGNERS with JAPANESE CHIEF DESIGNERS behind the car.
Accord is ALWAYS designed in JAPAN.

  22. Car and Driver indicate it is bigger than an Acura RL. what happened to fuel economy/global warming reduction?this thing is just way too big. and I love Hondas…have had a bunch of Accords. but never will own this massive awkward pos. count me out.

  23. AHHH! A vehicle built by monkeys with parts made by Hasbro…, Sounds like a solid idea for all the greedy car manufacturers in the near future! The reader who posted this is surely a time traveler from the future!

  24. Doesn’t take too much effort to realize that this monster is the product of the previous generation Ford Mustang mating with the current generation Infinity G35/G37. Someone should have drown this at birth!

  25. Yikes! it’s got the front end of a scion tC, the middle is all bmw 3, and the back end is pure honda awkward design. But, it’s a a honda, reliable and built for single moms and drone commuters. They’ll easily sell 300,000-400,000 of these nondescript people movers. honestly, Did anyone really expect it to look good?

  26. No more LED brake lights?

    Infiniti advertises this brand-wide design cue as a safety feature…and I agree….

Looks like this is one safety feature Honda choose to go without….

It seems pointless to take a step backwards, with so many others moving forvard….

  27. this hunk of fiberglass is not worthy of carrying the accord name… the exterior design overall is just terrible, much unlike previous versions, which were simple and yet flowed together so well… BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD HONDA
