Toyota iST

Last Updated:

The Japanese version of our new Scion xD.
But it looks much better than our poor little xD.
Even if you add nice wheels to the Scion, it’ll still look much cheaper than the Japanese version.
I think…
And they do offer different interior colors on the iST.

  1. The ist is so much better than our version.
I am not so sure why Japanese companies always give us the runt of the litter all the time.
I wonder what the inside looks like.

Even the Honda CR-V will be made in Mexico this coming fall, while the other part of the world drives the Japanese made version(maybe except for China)…WTF

  2. The iST just shows the potential of Scion xD. Yes, it does look somewhat less expensive (NOT cheaper), but my guess is IT IS less expensive than the JDM version.
Besides, you can always just replace the entire front bumper to match that of the JDM. Only if you like the subtle difference THAT much. =)

  3. Maybe people pay more for iST over Japan. will you pay $20000 for a xD? that’s why Scion is making it cheap inside and out. You will not believe how cheap cars are in America. people might pay twice or even more for the same kind of car oversea

  5. It looks better, but I don’t think it’s vastly better looking; apart from front fascia they’re the same.

What makes the iST look so much better here is that you have a low-res, terribly blurry shot of the xD and then a nice sharp short of the iST – I think you’re playing games Vince.

This is an old mental marketing trick. Though people don’t realize they think they way, the mind says: bad picture = bad product. So whenever your want to make something look better, you just get a crappy, slightly out of focus image of the competing product.

Stop playing around Vince. If you think your claim can stand on its own without visual trickery then get a proper picture of the xD.

  6. I did the update pretty quickly and I didn’t have time to find a better picture of the Scion.
I think most people know what it looks like anyway.
This was just a quick reminder.
I am not “playing games” or using an “old marketing trick”.
I am not out to get anyone.
You should stop taking the site so seriously.

Just think about it, what would I have to gain in making sure my readers like the iST better than the Scion???

  7. I don’t think Vince is here to fool anyone. He is not actually taking these pictures, apart from test drives
or visits at the auto show, so just relax.
This site is intended for car geeks who can’t wait to see what cars are in our future. There are very few sites that show this type of info

  8. I really like that from end!!! it should be available with the AWD model, if Scion was smart to bring it here,,,

  9. “The xD is aimed at children where the IST is targeting adult-like people.”

    As opposed to actual adults.

  10. Simple explanation:

For the U.S. they decided to make the xD more appealing to the Tuner-Wannabe kiddie market…instead of the Subaru market…..although I do favor the IST’s front end more.
