Opel Insignia

Last Updated:

Nothing official, but looking good.

This will be followed by the Saturn Aura version.

Looks like GM is really spending money and efforts in the mainstream midsize sedan market in the US.
Which will leave Chrysler and Ford even further behind…

  1. Looks good. I hope that this is a hit. With the effort they have been putting into their latest cars they deserve it.

  2. Looks like a bloated current-gen Aura. And the current Aura/Malibu are already overweight – now their styling matches their weight!

  3. Spending money, yes. MAKING money…I hope so, because GM has been making a real effort lately. I wonder how close the Malibu and G6 will look to this?

  4. This photo, while it may be accurate, is just a Photoshop job. The real Insignia debuts in July, but I’m sure photos will surface beforehand.

  5. Looks like GM is just going to import everything they can’t make well in the U.S. Wish we could get their European engineers and designers here in the states.

What are you five? The car market isn’t just “american” or “european” any longer. To say they can’t make something well in America is rediculous. I am sure the UAW disagrees. Engineering and designing vehicles together saves GM loads of cash. Instead of several small dollar budgets they have one huge one and then they teak the cars to that markets individual tastes. We get more competitive vehicles and GM increases sales. Lets look at Chrysler and Ford. Chrysler, not by it’s own choice has been making products that have some great styling but not much else. They are hot for a while and then supply finally meets demand and they are like PT cruiser who? 300 what? Ford should have been doing what GM is doing and killed off Merc back when Olds and Plymouth where put to pasture.

This looks great. I hope the gaps look as good on the real car. And they don’t make it anymore mainsteam than it is already. Toyota is going to lose out because of that. Give it time. Have you seen the new Camry? It’s selling on reputation. And what where the Accord/Inspire designers thinking? Hyundai does a better job at mixing designs. Oh and that design was done in California by Americans. At least with the Saturn Aura there where changes made to suit our tastes.

    No.

The domestic manufacturers all but abandoned the mid-size car market and concentrated on trucks and SUVs cash-cows only.

That is the point I was making.

  8. Engineering and designing vehicles together saves GM loads of cash.

Then why are GM and Ford in the red?

Too bad Ford won’t give us the European Focus here in the States given your economic model.

  9. Better looking than the current aura, that car while not the greatest looking has been a dog for saturn? Not sure why? This is definite improvement.

  10. If you look closely it bares some resemblence to the new C-class, only with sleeker lines. I would definately buy this. I just hope the current model does not live through its life cycle.

It’s something FORD should be doing but isn’t.

I concur. Seek talent where you can find it.

But pity that it’s foreign talent from a domestic manufacturer.

  13. Ford said they cant build it in Europe and import the 2nd gen focus for under 30k. My point was to develop the vehicles together and build them locally and yes it does save money. And there are other reasons the the American auto corps are in the “red” other that the cost of vehicles themselves. Look into the cost of medical insurance and other perks the UAW get. Look into the early retirement buy outs amd what not.

I appreciate your post, but Mazda successfully sells the Mazda3 as a worthy competitor in its class domestically, and it does so at a competitive price. Why won’t Ford market the superior Euro Focus equally? This isn’t the UAW’s fault.
