Subaru Impreza coupe ?

Last Updated:

This was mentioned a few months ago. Subaru and Toyota are working together on a small RWD coupe using the Subaru boxer engines.
This illustration shows what the Subaru version could look like.
There will be a Toyota version with its own design. Next Celica?? Scion Tc???

We’ll see…

  1. Finally a Subaru without the weird styling. With any luck Toyota will source some of their transmissions for the project. I wonder if they can strengthen the rear axle and offer it in rear-wheel drive.

  2. subar u started just w a afew yrears ago making lawn mowers and garden tools for 3rd world countrys i dont trust these guys to make a decen tcar for americans to drive safely you want a nice little coupe you get a cobalt of a focus period

  3. Now they’re just chasing the Hyundai Tib. Why can’t Subaru design a decent car without it being wierd looking or a copy of something else?

  4. I thought Sub was lost until I saw this! This is something they definitely need. Nice of the Celica to piggy back on this one…

  5. Looks like a used bar of soap.

I’m kidding. This looks alright. I would make the headlights more dramatic and less bland.

  6. Toyota would do good in copying some of the styling cues from the mid-90s Celica/Supra or just going in a new design direction. Anything as long as they avoid the last Celica’s awkwardness or the current design direction Toyota is using.

    I’m sorry, I don’t speak Cretin.

  8. Toyota owns a percent of the Subaru brand. So that’s why they are working together. Nevertheless both of them are great Japanese brands in which I trust.

People who did never like the Toyota or Subaru design have never seen a Japanese car. Instead they only think GM and Ford still build the Bel Air and the Thunderbird respectively.

  9. Chopped subaru concepts always look good ….

I highly doubt anything cept maybe that it’ll only have 2 doors is true with this photo.

But, if they can drop in the STI drivetrain and keep it much closer to 3000 (maybe sub?) lbs, it’ll be a very nice performing car. I hope that if they bring it to the US they at least put a quicker steering rack then the dumbed down one in the STI

  10. They’re boasting a lightweight, mid range power, RWD, 2 door coupe, for relatively cheap.

2.0L 175hp boxer engine, RWD, projecting around 2300lbs, and they’re considering the 2.5 Turbo motor too, with the AWD drivetrain. IMO, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on till more info is made available.
