Suzuki Equator

Not sure this is great timing.
instead of importing some of the great small car they sell overseas (like the Swift) they decided to rebadge a Nissan pick up truck.

I just paid $4.71 a gallon for regular last week…

  1. I am still lost as to why they don’t import the Swift.

My suggestions for their other vehicles:
SX4- needs sunroof and next model should be a bit longer with less plastics inside and Xeon headlights
    like the Japanese spec. version

Grand Vitara- a fuel efficient 4 cylinder makes sense.

SX4 Sedan- needs same as the hatch and AWD.

  2. I’d pay $471.00 a gallon to drive that truck, what with it’s flat olive green paint job and all.

  3. It all comes down to one big psychology experiment in greed and gluttony. The more you tell somebody that something is bad and more costly than before, the more they want to have it no matter what. The government realizes this and is betting on the fact that millions of Americans will not give up their big gas guzzlers even if they have to pay over $200.00 a week to fill their tanks. P.T. Barnum the great carnival showman of the 20th century said there is a sucker born every minute, and that holds true even today more than ever!

  4. I have to agree with the anonymous poster. That olive green looks great! The front bumper works extremely well with the fascia too.

I don’t think the timing is bad IF you give it the right engines. Smaller trucks are going to make a huge comeback in the next few years. The only thing this truck really needs is a small diesel.

BTW Vince, have you noticed that Ford Ranger Sales are up? Its looking like the model is getting a reprieve.

  5. That’s a good looking truck!! Put a 4 cyl or an efficient diesel and we are good to go!

    Love the flat paint.

  6. Im still in shock it cost me 42 bucks to get 9 gallons last weekend in la, it seems like not to long ago 20 bux would fill up the tank…

I’m looking at a 57.13 receipt for 12 gallons. That’s not even that bad… I paid nearly $5 per gallon of premium last week which, psychologically, freaked me out. Since I only use my car for weekend drives, it’s not that big of a deal. But the speed at which the fuel costs are rising is totally daunting.

  9. forget about gas for a second you sheep. We all know whats happening but many still must have trucks for their type of work, end of story. Nissan builds the best truck in the world in this category. suzuki knows nissan builds a better truck than they ever could. Good choice suzuki. however, if I want a Nissan that’s exactly what I will get!

  10. Why doesn’t nissan import it and sell it as a nissan because thats what it is.
    Bit of a joke really.
    Too much rebadging going on.
Just a cheap cop out for carmakers that can’t make their own product.
    Who knows whats authentic anymore.

  11. Fortunately for me, I telecommute. Gas prices are next to meaningless to me these day. However I do see the damage gas prices are causing. It is just flippin’ insane….

I totally dig my Mustang GT, but I probably wouldn’t love it as much if I drove more than the 6000 miles a year I do drive (and I’m driving even less these days0

  12. Most Nissan trucks are built in Tennessee or Alabama with parts from Canada and Mexico. Some are also built down in Mexico which are the only true imports. J.D. powers and consumer reports rank them at the bottom of the reliabilty scale for trucks. Check out the facts before you make any statements based on personal preferences.

  13. If nissan trucks are so reliable why arn;t the biggest selling truck.
Know a few people had quite a few probs with theirs.
    ZD30 engines are time bombs.

  14. People, get real. Nissan is hardly the best at trucks and the only reason they are doing this is because they’re stuck with excess production capacity. This idiotic thing looks like it was cobbled together for a Mad Max film in 1985. Suzuki is irrelevant in the USA, and this is them clamoring for product to keep their retail network happy until they can figure something else out.

  15. You are dead right, it is only the carmakers in big trouble that have to go pawn off their product for rebaging.

  16. Big deal, any other truck maker could paint their pick ups that green colour.
That colour wont even make it into production.

  17. A friend of mine, a nice guy with a severe drug habit, also cheats on his wife, but says the Nissan Truck is well built, he was in the business before. but now just hangs out at a pool hall. This should sell poorly
