Sure. The back seat is super small.
But its there, right?

  1. Just say no to putting anyone in that back seat, even a baby. This car should be a strict two-seater.

  2. I had hopes for this car, but that interior is a torture chamber. Smart can wipe the sweat off their brow for a second. The upholstery alone would have me walking off the dealership ticked that Toyota would waste my good time.

  3. Small backseat or not … it is still has more seats that the Smart for a someone who needs a third or fourth seat to shuttle little kids around. Plus it is proabably more reliable and has more dealer network around.

good move … bring it here now!!!

  4. No way I would allow someone I loved to ride in that cheap looking death-trap. Who would buy something like this?

  5. The front seatbacks look like they pulled a T-shirt over them, like you’d maybe do after a day on the beach.

  6. How could that thing pass any safety standards? It looks like something my son cobbled together like when he made go-carts.

Is this their answer to ther $2500 Tata car? That’s the only way it could be sold.

  7. sooooo the jackass that said small seats or not, thinks 2 dangerous seats are better than none??????

  8. Its pretty good in fact.
For the people who are moaning, where are your favoured automotive brands in the tiny car line up??
Nowhere, more than likely have no money or losing money majorly.
At least toyota have the guts to enter this market.

  9. Those seats are about as attractive as cheap lawn furniture. Hopefully they’re not indicative of the rest of the interior, but considering the crappy plastics Toyota’s been using lately they probably are. To make matters worse, the front end looks like some Hello Kitty character.

  10. Wow, a lot of opinionated self proclaimed experts out there throwing the word “dangerous” around. Does anyone actually KNOW what the safety rating is? There’s a video out there of a “death trap Smart Fourtwo” in a crash test and it faired better than most other vehicles out there.

  11. Official photo’s have been out for quite a while: http://www.toyota.nl/cars/new_cars/iq/gallery.aspx

Main idea of the ‘super-mini’ iQ is cheap and environmentally friendly at around 10K (Euro).

However as other commented seems pretty unsafe especially in the US and plug-in Hybrids have almost no emissions on short distances (but sure take more energy to build).

  12. This was an opportunity to offer a unique design in a clever package to compete with a Mini or Smart. But this just keeps with the bland Toyota DNA. Personally, I would never consider any new Toyota because they are all so mediocre. But who am I kidding… I’m clearly the exception, because it’s worked for them so far.

  13. I don’t understand how someone can say the back seat is small if he/she has never seen it in person. I know I can’t.

Mini’s back seat looks small too (in person), but I don’t hear a lot of people complaining about them. AND I am sure that’s why the 1st generation Audi TT didn’t sell well because it couldn’t accomadate an actual adult with average height…right…

Back seats are there, you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to. For others who do, it’s there. Unfortunately the same can’t be said about the Smart.

Do we ALL really need a Suburban or Excursion to fit a family of 5 in?!?

  14. Well with petrol going to skyrocket over $5 – $6 + a gallon in the future, small cars are going to make perfect sense. Who wants to own a huge SUV which you will have to put a second mortgage on your house to fill the tank? Not any normal person anyway.

  15. Do we need to remind people that this is Toyota’s entry level vehicle? It’s significantly smaller, and therefore cheaper than the Yaris. Can we really expect high end fabrics and plastics in this class of vehicle? Some think the Mini’s interior looks great, but look at what they’re charging for one.

Personally, I think the front end looks great for a car in this price range. And yes, the back seat does look small and uncomfortable, but at least there is an option of putting someone back there for a short trip, something that can’t be said for a Smart.

  16. Can we really expect high end fabrics and plastics in this class of vehicle?

No one is expecting “high end” fabrics. Just give us something more than what the family pet would deserve.

And yes, the back seat does look small and uncomfortable, but at least there is an option of putting someone back there for a short trip, something that can’t be said for a Smart.

The smart never pretended to be anything other than a two seater.

  17. Hey Patty Boy, these cars were made for you, get one and enjoy, dont forget your knee pads, elbow pads and helmet though, we need you to give us your comments on this rat trap.

  18. what the smart brand could have been, mass-produced quality communter cars.

but i guess they like the mb crowd; seeing several 40K models near where i live is quite disturbing…
