2010 Ford Shelby GT500

For those of us who must have a Mustang with 540hp…

I wasn’t very impressed with the new Mustang when I saw it in real life.
Still plenty of hard plastics all over the interior, and the outside just doesn’t look that new.

  1. Nuts to your hard-plastics, Mr. Burlapp. They made it look real purty. Not like a cartoon caricature of the original that was the 2005-2009 model. I want one, and I will get one come Hell or Hillary Clinton. I will then use it to terrorize Prius drivers who insist on driving 60 mph in the carpool/fast lane on 101. Anyone care to contribute to a fund to help me?

  2. I think this car is really sexy. I didn’t think so about the previous one. The subtle changes work. Especially the front that looks a little more menacing. And the designers got rid of all the junky bits, like the antennae.

    I agree with you. The refinements are just about perfect with the front end being the most improved. My only real criticism of design is I wish the nav and stereo/climate controls were higher up on the dash.

    This is what the current ‘Stang should have looked like when it was introduced. Better late than never, I suppose.

  9. It looks pretty awesome. I wish they would have had an independent rear suspension in at least this version. Not that I’m gonna buy it or anything, but still, it would have been nice. Cost issues I guess.

    Back to the topic of the new Shelby, as sarcasm translates poorly over teh internets, yes it may be a little excessive and perhaps the timing is off considering the economy and such, but I think it’s a fine looking vehicle and would gladly physically violate it (I mean hooning/driving fast in case your mind is in the gutter, sheesh) if I ever get lucky enough to do so. I think the general consensus here is that this car is smokin.’ Besides, even if it isn’t the most environmentally friendly vehicle in the world, having a halo car to lust after is important. Gives some of us working stiffs life goals 🙂

    The Mustang is one of Ford’s best sellers. Also, Ford did not receive any money from the government since they are in a far better financial position compared to GM and worst of all, Chrysler.

    Is a Civic coupe your idea of mastery of design? When is the last time you actually compared a Mustang to the competition, like a 350Z or an RX8? At this pricepoint, they all show faults in the details and the Mustang always holds its own. I’m anxious to see the new one, because from what I see, the new Mustang looks good. Certainly better than the E-class coupe pictured beneath it that will cost twice as much.

    In actuality, to build, operate and dispose of a Prius, it is more destructive to the environment than a Hummer. To drive a Prius and a Hummer 150,000 miles, an H2 is “greener.” And if it weren’t for government subsidies from both Japan and the US, it would be more expensive than an H2.

    Yes “john m”, thanxs for Your “normal posting”, they didn’t so far – but they face the same problem that You can “recognize” in some postings here – they have too a too strong UAW that do not want to accept that there is no reason why a “Big Three employee” costs more than a Honda, Toyota or BMW employee.

    I am working in Switzerland as a Banker (so the devil itself for UAW) and I love BMW – particular the M5 (I owned a 5series and then a 3series until three years ago). But actually after my son was born I own a Skoda Estate and a Honda Accord (Acura TSX in the US) which both build really brilliant family-cars that are worth their value in my opinion.

    The UAW can use such postings to avoid change – but I stood before the “iron wall” here in Eastern Europe (and felt the pain and cried in the 80’s) and saw the communists fall (I really celebrated that day) – and I will celebrate again, when the UAW will be disintegrated – cause I still admire the US values and its basic institution!!!

    Yearning to travel through California with my “Cantonese-European” baby-boy!!!
